After seeing the post yesterday about ice jams I thought I would toss these pics out there. Its from last winter, on our annual ice fishing trip. Lots of time we see small ice ridges, that you can easily drive over. Last year, we came off the river from the lodge and ran into this !! We had to drive 2 miles to get around it. It went all the way across the lake, west to east, all the way to the north shore, and cut across a bay. I measured it after we got home on google earth. Total.....10 miles !!

I used to run in to those things on Oneida lake(NY) usually late ice. It really sucks when they separate and leave 10 foot of open ice between you and your truck at the end of the day. I've done some water skipping with my snowmobile back in the day.
