I haven't looked into it yet, but the speedometer on my truck was stuck at 30 when I got in it today. It would go up when driving, but not go back to 0 when stopped. It would show anywhere from 10-30 mph when stopped. I am assuming it isn't a cable anymore on the truck this new. Has anyone had this problem that could give me an idea as to were to start looking to fix it? Thanks

That is the first thing I do for all vehicular problems. laugh Didn't help the problem, but I did feel a little better.

There are several companies that will rebuild them. It’s like a 3 day turn around.

Common problem on that vintage. Mine did the same thing.

Yea I had to replace mine last year. I think it was around $250 for my shop to pull the old instrument cluster, and install a new one. Somedays the speedometer would work fine, some days it was showing way slower than I was going, some days way faster! Has worked fine since I had the new one installed.

Had the exact same thing happen on my 03 Silverado. Sometime the speedometer would stick at 0 other times it would go up to 30/40 and stick. I fixed mine for about $25. Basically behind each one of your gauges on the cluster panel is what they call a stepper motor, (this is the part that is faulty) I ordered a kit for my vehicle which included 6 new stepper motors, and a small soldering iron/with solder and a solder sucker. I just did this about a year ago, and if memory serves me right, I believe I got the whole kit for right around $25. Ordered on EBAY.

If you go on youtube, there are many different videos of how to change the motors, it actually only took me less than an hour to take out and replace, and I've never done anything like this before. You just need to be careful when melting the solder on the old motor so you don't damage the circuit panel.

Speedo has been working fine ever since I replaced it, good luck ! Save yourself some money and do it yourself!
