I came home from work and the kids had been playing with dog. When I come in the door they tell me he is hurt. His dew claw is sticking out at 90 deg instead of running parallel with the leg. What kind of issue is this? Let it be and it will heal or should something else be done?

I cut them off my puppies(German Shorthair). If it was my dog I would let it be and see how it heals up.

I’ve had hounds rip dew claws off many times. He should be ok, the dog will lick it a keep it clean, just keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the replies, anymore advice. I would just let it be but its hanging out sideways and don't know if it will heal that way or fall back into place.

clip it off and spray a bit of iodine or blue spray on it - it will be fine

My Jack Russel breaks his like that occasionally when he's hunting in the wood pile. He limps around and licks it for a couple days but then it falls off and he's back to chasing mice and red squirrels.

Why fix it when you can struggle?

Mine does too! Cheap dog food can weaken the nails, so changed it and seemed to help a lot!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
