If they are high enough that will be good. Just did a garage for a guy and he didn't like it and I had to agree. The ceiling was just over 8 foot and had to put in 12 lights to cure the shadowing problem. This garage is very bright now and that is what he wanted.
Wish I had more time to trap....

I have a 24'X 26' attached garage that I hung 4 of the 3200 lumen shop lights from Rural King in. WOW! It made a difference! I think 4 of them was perfect for that size. Only problem is now I can see how crappy the body work I've been doing on my 47 International KB1 really is!!

I just built a new shop and I researched lighting for it. Most sources recommend 100 lumens per square foot for a woodworking shop.
I purchased nine 4' LED fixtures (two tubes each). Each fixture puts out 4,800 lumens which will give me a little over 96 per square foot.
I haven't hung them or wired the shop yet but I'm thinking it will be plenty bright in there.
Eh...wot?

What do you have for finished walls? White walls will reflect light and make things brighter with less lights while dark wall absorb it. I know this is obvious but still have to point it out.

Yeah, I've never done lighting in a new shop before and have no idea what 100 lumens per square foot will look like. I just know that's what several credible sources suggested and that's what I shot for. If if gives me a suntan and I have to wear sunglasses while out there I can always remove a few fixtures and use them elsewhere.
Eh...wot?

Also look at the light color, not just the lumens. I like the color in my work areas to be about 5000K. If your color is lower, it will seem darker even with the same amount of lumens. x2 And different folks will be more comfortable with a different spectrum. Mike

Just read a good article on LED lights.....throw them out. Study after study is finding them to be really bad for not just our eyes, but also our health. Harvard was involved in some of the studies..... Got a link? I'm pretty sure the two 150W incandescents in my fur shed are bad for my eyes and my fingers, can't see what I'm skinning. I'm going to be upgrading in there soon.
Eh...wot?
