So about 2 weeks ago I noticed that my dog bailey was acting very lathargic and just not eating. She wasn’t really wanting to do anything at all which is very unusual for her. She is usually quite the energetic dog and always greets you at the door. ALWAYS happy to see me come come. And then it was just like she didn’t want to. So I took her to the vet and they have ran all sorts of tests on her and can’t figure out ways going on. They gave her an iv and put fluids into her. Since sh has gotten home iv started feeding her raw chicken and deer from a buck I shot this year. She is eating very little and drinking very little also. She has lost about 10 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I really don’t know what to do from here. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appriciated! Just want to get her healthy again and back in good spirits. She is also on some antibiotics right now, and she was in a kennel over Christmas week. Just would like some advice. Thanks much!

Yeah, different vet, what age, breed, activity? Did last vet do a liver biopsy?

I agree with the second opinion if you can swing it. Also, as said, x-ray of stomach. Had similar issues with my beagle. Strange gastric noises, lethargic, no appetite. Tests negative. Vet thinks gastritis and has me feed her cooked chicken and warm white rice. She was way better after a week. Good luck.

I’m not a vet. But I would guess more than likely, it’s lymes.

Possible gastric torsion, the stomach he's twisted pinching off the esophagus. Get it to vet immediately as that is a life threatening condition requiring surgery to correct.
But there are many other possible causes. Hopefully not torsion.

She has had x rays I believe, they did blood work on her and kept her for 3 days 2 nights. All tests came back negative. She is no older than 7 not sure of the exact age as she is a rescue. And she is a Irish setter/ border collie mix. The setter showed the most though as she is built just like one, has the “ smart knot” and everything. She even points off of instinct. I don’t Know if this matters much. But she did eat a bird the other day. Iv started trying to feed her the chicken and rice as of this afternoon. She is drooling quite a bit and will go outside and dig a shallow hole and lay on it and in the dirt. When we took her to the vet she was running a 104* fever.

Sorry to hear. Give her some pedilyte. If need be use a syringe full at a time.
My dog was the same way awhile back. Few days with pedilyte she was getting much better.

Odd that x-rays were negative. Sounds like she could have an intestinal obstruction or perforation from the bird. Could be an infection she picked up from eating it too. Is she pooping?

If you can take her a different vet I would. Sounds like she's getting worse.

Have you checked her teeth? Mine had an infected tooth that caused many of the same symptoms as yours. Once the vet took care of it she was her old self again. Good luck, hate to see a good dog down.

My best guess would be a perforated bowel or bowel obstruction with a subsequent infection, most likely from eating the bird. While it has not been proven, I have to wonder about West Nile transmission from the bird as well. Could also be Salmonella from the bird.

I had a Lab that had bowel obstructions 3 times from swallowing rocks. Had to be opened up all 3 times so I finally got my wish for an "expensive" Lab.

In my opinion your dog is in rough shape and needs pretty intensive care from a Vet.

When the X-rays came back it did not show any blockages in her intestines. I wondered the same thing about west Nile. Or some type of flu pertaining to dogs. I also didn’t realize that dogs could get salmonella. The vet said and I quote” this one has me stumped”

Which is why everyone is saying try a new vet. I have a country vet that I love to pieces, but I'm not even sure if he HAS an xray machine, lol. An office visit is cheap... try someone else and see what they say. Tell them you don't have a lot of ,money but don't wanna see your best friend die...and see what they say.

I have a lab that had a habit of eating stuffed animals requiring surgical removal. Same symptoms as you described, except my dog vomited too. The second time my dog ate something the x-rays and tests were negative because x-rays can only see certain things. I'm guessing that a ball of feathers wouldn't show up any better on an x-ray than polyfill. My vet wasn't sure either but recommended surgery based on prior experiences. Turned out to be spot on. I'd get a second opinion. Sounds like your dog is in rough shape.
