I think master scarpi might be wrong on this one. And you do know ranch pelts are drummed which takes a lot of grease off the pelt. Inside and out.

I'm thinking the bulk, if not all, of those cats are held over from last season.

Coyotes - probably some fresh goods. Likely mostly early ones.

So coon hides are about worthless then? Not much greasier pelt then a coon.

Ugh ya actually they are just about worthless

You guys aren't getting what I am saying here. Some grease in the leather is not going to hurt a fresh pelt. The tanners have chemical de greasers that will take out the grease. This is not a problem with fresh hides.Over time the grease starts to oxidize and it eats the leather fibres.De greasers at the tannery have no effect on grease burnt leather. There is no way to stop this and the more grease in the leather, the faster this will occur. The longer pelts are stored the more damage is done. How they are stored also has an effect. The very worst case scenario would be direct sunlight, the best would be in a dark freezer vacuum sealed.Pelts that have noticeable oxidation of the leather are called stale by the trade. Some species "go stale" quicker than others under any conditions.
The best thing to do is handle your fur grease free from the start, then you can store your pelts for quite a long time without them grading stale.
In my opinion as a trapper, tanner and furrier the very worst defect in a pelt is grease burn even worse than taint.

FHA held the line on these better skins in May. Hopefully there are some eager marten buyers

Looks like from FHA website that your marten will be offered in Helsinki with my fresh ones. Hopefully your marten are stored in what Dave Bosma refers to as "The Vault".
Hopefully this vault is a freezer.

I'll have my fresh marten in there as well as some really nice coyotes. Not sure if Helsiinki or North Bay would be best for the coyotes but NAFA isn't getting them that's for sure.

Marten are a species of least concern to being affected by grease(stale).

According to the catalog, they aren't offering any bobcats at this sale.

As of yesterday afternoon, there were 5 buyers inspecting goods. So I've been told.

Did FHA not offer any fresh goods at this sale? I shipped 75 beaver, weasels and castor to be in this sale...only thing lotted (and sold) is one Select LGE beaver carried over from last year. Kind of PO'd. Wish I would have known they weren't selling fresh, they would have gone to NAFA.
