If he's still in the hole you should see dirt pushed up from the inside. Also, depending on your weather, he might be down for a few days. Good luck and has been said, we need pics !

If he's in there and it's below freezing at night there will be a frost buildup around the opening of the hole where his body warmth is escaping. Lots of times they back fill the hole from inside.

Thats cool i have caught two this year so far one was real big sucker im gonna tan him and put him on the wall i thinknits a shame they arent worth more as pretty as they are. Good luck pal i hope you get him.

They plant both front feet in the fresh dug ground. Save yourself some digging and put the anchor away from the hole or he will be down inside to the full length of the chain.
