At one location, the "general" rule of thumb is to put at least 2 sets, for a chance at double and to give the coyote more options, and so on. Do you often put one dirthole and a flat set? Or maybe 2 dirtholes? I guess what I'm trying to ask, is do you like to throw in different sets at each location, rather than putting in 2 of the same looking sets?

I can see the advantage of putting 2 different kinds of sets, giving the coyote more options, if he doesn't like the hole, maybe he likes the flat set, or vice versa.

OR

I also, see the advantage of maybe just putting 2 hole sets, and if you educate or get a finicky coyote, you could throw in a flat set and nab him in that?

What is everyone's tactics/thoughts on this?

This is "find what works for you" topic. I have never had much luck with flat sets so for me, it would be 2 dirtholes.

I guess whatever fits.
If its sod and tough to blend Id go with just dirtholes, if its got a nice bank cant help but make a big hole and a flat-set or whatever. Usually like 1 set that really stands out though.
The 2 trap rule is fine and dandy, but if your in a high trash spot you may be better off to put in more than that. They clog up quick.

What's in the well will always come up in the bucket.

I normally use more flats than holes. This year I went with almost all dirt holes. I don't know but I think I will go back tomore flats. Like them alot, especially by bean stubble. Easy blending. Work well too.

This year my double setted locations were mainly both dirt holes. Both of your theories have merit.

I like to use all dirt holes in one set grouping except for one scent post set. Those scent posts in the grouping will take those old, wary, wised up coyotes everytime. Ace

I put at least two sets at every location, no exceptions! I would save 50% of the time its two dirt holes, and 50% of the time its a dirthole and a flat set. No ryhme or reason, just like to change it up a bit. The flat sets are good producers, but I can't say they produce better than the dirtholes because that isn't so.

I like the idea of gang sets in an area you know there are a lot of yotes, next year I believe I'll be setting three sets per location instead of spreading out sets over a larger area. I know several times last year as I approached my sets another yote took off that was keeping the caught one company.

Now I have two double sets out, one is a 2- dirthole and the other a flat set and dirthole.
