Most of the time I have gotten stopped by them, we usually end up talking about hunting and what we are seeing. I usually will offer to show the license before they ask to see it. It's an after thought, they know when then see me I know the law am doing things by the book.

zero attitude and nothing but respect both ways. First impressions go a long way.

Non-existent, unless someone calls, or it's deer season.

The brand new wardens can be a bit gung-ho. Was checked for a fishing twice in the same day by one.
Was dove hunting a field once. warden drove truck int he field and started demanding we stop shooting. Didn't realize field owners son was with us. You could see the look in his eyes that he was going to write a bunch of tickets. Well he got disappointed but before he left asked for permission to hunt on his day off. Field was loaded with dove.

We used to have a real jerk. Maybe 5 years ago he retired and we got a really good guy. He has just transferred and at present we have nobody here with coverage from adjacent areas. The other area warden is turning out fine. He started out as a rookie with a John Wayne attitude but has matured into a very good warden. Most wardens are just like you or me. Good days and bad days. Treat them with the respect the position deserves and avoid problems.

Honestly I've never been checked trapping. Once most of the deer hunters clear out, and the real work begins there aren't many people found in our neck of the woods. We have one warden I'm aware of that has to cover a pretty sizable amount of land. If you're not doing anything wrong your chances of seeing him are very slim.

That being said when I had a guy in from Indiana he had two cats that needed CITES tags before he could go home. We were going to pull traps a day early so that he could drive the 35 miles to get them tagged before he left. The warden was nice enough to drive down the 35 miles to my house, and tag them. Can't ask for better service in my opinion.

The WI trappers and the WI DNR have warden training seasons. The trappers take the wardens out on the line with us. They set traps and go through a skinning class. WE have trained wardens from all over the country.
We have a 11 In the class we are know teaching. 2 are Mud Ducks (from MN) LOL Today Is our first check.
I have been doing this for about 10 years and It's a positive thing. WE have some top notch wardens In this area.

I hope them two Mud Ducks dont come back thinking we have to use Cable Restraints, 6 inch colony traps, 160s on land and have to cheer for the Pack lol.

Personally I cant complain with any warden we've had in the NW corner of MN. Some have been pretty tough but they have a job to do just like the rest of us. People need to be reminded that warden's have bosses too and they have to follow directives.

The CO's are fine in my area, only those that do not follow the law think otherwise.

The wardens I deal with are great. The Warden to the south of me is the best Warden I have ever dealt with. Pro trapping and very generous to the MTA Tanned Fur Project. Full of common sense and treats everyone the same regardless if you are homeless or a millionaire.

All of the wardens I've interacted are great. A couple call me to help with various issues. They have my number in their phones.

No problems. But I don't test the limits of the law and cooperate if stopped and questioned. I email one supervisor for clarifications or confirmations on interpretation of law and always get a reasonable response that I then archive if there ever is a dispute. Some young ones like to portray the tough guy attitude but I let em be

Ours are pretty good here, they pretty much have to have a hunting, fishing, and or trappibg background to even have a chance to get hired.

I've seen ONE game warden in Oregon since I've lived here. Confused me to no end when I seen him. Was at a small lake wayyyy in the mountains and out of the brush crawls a state trooper asking me about fishing and how many birds I killed that year. Nothing he's wearing says fish and game or anything, just looks like a regular state cop. I thought I had did something incredibly wrong if the cops are coming for me out here. After talking to him a bit I learned that like Alaska, Oregons game wardens are state troopers.
Nicest game warden I've encountered ever! Checked my licences then pointed me in the right direction for some good blue grouse hunting. Game wardens here so far are good people. Wish I could say the same about the Forest Service cops!! Forest Service harasses me every time I go to "their woods". I really get the feeling they don't want anyone whatsoever in the national forests. So much that I almost stopped going to that stream system all together. Now, on the rare occasion when I do fish there, I park my truck above the steepest worst trail I can find running down to the creek to make them hike down there while I'm a quarter mile upstream. If I see them coming before they see me, I just lay down in the brush and keep still. Harass me if you want but you're going to have to work for it.
