I hope it isnt too late, but they are trying to ban our pull only dp traps. acr 25 was herd yesterday and was sent out of committee, 2nd reading yesterday. we need everyone we can get to contact our assembly for acr 25 and senate for scr 11 please ask them to oppose these two bills. they are trying to say this trap falls under our foothold band. the antias showed them a video of a 1.5 foot hold in a box and when they set it off red dye splattered all over and said that is what we are using. thy also said they catch everything from pets to coyotes to river otter and just spreading outright lies. if you are from nj contact your assembly and the senators listed below, everyone else if you could call the senators we would really appreciate it. we need all the support we can get. here is a list of people we need contacted Senators Bob Smith (D) (732) 752-0770 Linda R. Greenstein (D) (609) 395-9911 Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R) (908) 526-3600 Richard J. Codey (D) (973) 535-5017 Samuel D. Thompson (R) (732) 607-7580 if you would like to email them you can go to this site, click on their name then click Contact your legislator(s), verry simple and quick http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/abcroster.aspthanks for all you help

YOU need to oppose ACR25 and SCR11 NOW BY What ever means that you are most comfortable with -- email, phone or fax -- you need to contact your local legislators - both Assembly and Senate because time is running out again! Encourage your friends and family to do the same. These resolutions are being pushed forward in an effort to take the DP Trap away. They want to compare it to a steel-jawed leg hold trap which is NOT true. If both of these resolutions pass the two houses, it becomes LAW! Please contact your local legislators, not just once, but over and over, to voice your opinion. Link to find your Assembly members and Senators: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/municipalities.aspLink to ACR125 - http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2016/Bills/ACR/125_I1.HTMLink to SCR11 - http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2016/Bills/SCR/11_I1.HTMThis information that follows is from our previous email blast: "The encapsulating trap or commonly known as the Dog Proof Trap (DP trap) is not the same type trap as the steel jawed leg hold trap that was banned in 1984. This trap has its own classification in the North American trap standards (BMP) and The International Trap Standards (ISO) The DP Trap in fact would have been an alternate trap for raccoons if it was developed at that time of the legislation to be implemented as stated in the 1984 Statue 23:4-22.4 portion of the law banning the steel jawed leg hold trap. The DP Trap was not in use at the time of the 1984 ban so there for could not be adopted to fulfill the total law. This trap fills all the criteria of the law as the adopted trap and the NJ Fish and Wildlife Council acted in accordance of the law both in the trap and adopting an alternative trap. What I do is write a message that is fairly universal such as: "I oppose SCR175 and am highly concerned about the possibility of increased rabies in animals in my area." IT IS NOW OR NEVER. PLEASE MAKE THE CALL and then get at least two more people to do the same. If we lose the DP it will not stop there. Assembly will most likely pass Need to keep the pressure up on them though make them see the we are opposed to ACR25 we need to hit the Senate committee hard now with calls and writing opposing SCR11. Then go right to the senate floor also. Need to stop in committee but in case we can't we need to be working on floor. the video that the AR groups made with the 1.5 steel jawed leg hold in the box and calling it an encapsulating trap really did some damage. It looks like maybe and I may be wrong but the legislators may not doing any fact checking!!!!! Need to point that out. The encapsulating trap we are using is the Dog Proof not a steel jawed leg hold.

The leghold trap ban resolution passed the full New Jersey Assembly today! Thanks to APLNJ's Sue Russell, Angi Metler, Doreen Frega, Doris Lin, Jay Lassiter and Janine Motta and Brian Hackett from HSUS for lobbying today. Great work! Next step... the Senate.

To get things in prospective. The law suit was ruled that the DP trap is not a Steel jawed leg hold and that the Fish and Wildlife council has the authority to adopt this trap as a replacement for the Leg hold. That is good but the war is still not over. The senate can still act on the SCR11 and place the DP trap into the banned category. We need to keep telling the Senate committee and the senate floor in a respectful way that we want them to look at science and facts on the DP trap. To seek real information and council on the trap from the authorities like Fish and Wildlife, BMP’s for examples. To look at the fact that with just one season the DP trap increased the raccoon take by 5000 raccoons, with low fur prices, and NO negative impact on pets, livestock or humans. This is important for NJ as we are on the edge of another rabies outbreak. right now, our numbers are back to the late 80's numbers. If we hit the 90's numbers, the pockets of rabies will go state wide again like it did in the 1990. This tool can increase the raccoon catch with more efficiently with less non-targets catches with a higher social acceptance once folks see the trap. We need to show that the DP trap does not cause the damage and animals can be released when set properly. The trap is a for the most part a species-specific trap for raccoons and opossums, Non-targets such as dog will not be caught by the pull system. the DP trap is not a steel jawed foot trap. The trap is the best tool to control the raccoons in the state of NJ with the least amount of negative problems.
We need to stay on facts when writing emails. for some reason phone calls, may not be documented correctly we are advising folks to call but e mails are important. When you email, please BCC the email to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can have a record of the emails being sent.

pop pop your over your private message limit but here was my last responce.
please oppose scr11, A three Judge panel of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court found in a unanimous decision that the N.J. Fish and Game Council acted within its rights and the intent of the 1984 law that banned the steel jawed leg hold trap when it legalized the dog proof trap for use during the 2015/2016 trapping season. The court also ruled that the dog proof trap was not a steel jawed leg hold trap as defined in the 1984 law. The trap that was in question is “foot enclosing” and does not operate as jaws with only one movable side of the trap.
New Jersey rabid raccoon attacks have been endangering public health for some time. These are just a few of the instances where the public was effected and endangered.
· Boonton Township, Morris County Park, July 27, 2016. A 76-year-old Morris County man was attacked by a raccoon, park closed after attack.
· A rabid raccoon attacks and mauls a six-year-old boy on his way to school in Elmwood Park, N.J. January, 28, 2016.
· Police warning residents of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. after Raccoon attacks. June 20, 2016.
· A raccoon attacks terrifying neighbors in Denville.
Despite an expanding raccoon population in New Jersey and the high rate of rabies found in that population, the New Jersey Assembly voted to ban the use of the encapsulated Dog Proof trap as a means of controlling raccoons.
Subsequently this new trap was reviewed by the New Jersey Attorney General who found it to be a legal alternative to the steel jawed leg hold trap that was banned by statute in 1985 and the results from the first seasons use of this trap indicates an increase in the raccoon harvest and not a single reported case of a non-targeted species being captured

When talking to folks we need to key in on Dog proof or dp. The AR groups are telling every one that we are using the Foot trap. old trappers that quite trapping 30 years ago when we started using cable are calling me excited that we are getting the foot trap back!!!! Wrong we will never get the Foot trap back in NJ. the dog proof trap also has a calming effect on dog men knowing that this trap is not going to catch the dogs. Here is the link to the vid the groups sent out to our legislators notice the traps that is on the intro and the trap they demo as a encapsulating trap. and people believe this stuff. https://awionline.org/content/animal-pro...turn-new-jersey

Sent out email today. Tuesday 11/08 I oppose SCR11 & S2750.
The Dog proof trap (DP Trap) is not the same as the OLD steel foot trap. Please oppose SCR11 & S2750, A three Judge panel of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court found in a unanimous decision that the N.J. Fish and Game Council acted within its rights and the intent of the 1984 law that banned the steel jawed leg hold trap when it legalized the dog proof trap for use during the 2015/2016 trapping season. here is the new wording on s2750. it would ban even cable restraints the way it is written. everyone please call and email we need you to help us now.
This bill would ban the manufacture, sale, offer for sale, possession, importation, or transportation of a trap that is a spring-loaded device that restrains an animal by capturing the foot, leg, or other body part, including an enclosed foothold type trap or any other type trap that uses a jaw, arm, bar, cable, or wire to grasp or pin the animal’s foot, leg, or other body part. The bill would also prohibit a person from trapping or attempting to trap an animal using such a trap. The bill specifies that a mouse trap or rat trap designed for use in and under buildings is not a trap prohibited by the bill. A person who violates the bill would be subject to a civil fine of $100 to $300 for a first offense, $500 to $700 for a second offense, and $1,000 to $2,500 for a third or subsequent offense, plus confiscation and forfeiture of all equipment used in, and animals or pelts obtained through, the violation.

Is SCR11 less of an issue? With the ruling and all that? It seems like this bill would make SCR11 void.

Got 10 opened for 2750 and 1 for scr11 and one Senator replied like yours. Pretty sad on their part. But one is better than the none I have been getting. So off to send them all again....GO TEAM!!!!!

A person who violates the bill would be subject to a civil fine of $100 to $300 for a first offense, $500 to $700 for a second offense, and $1,000 to $2,500 for a third or subsequent offense, plus confiscation and forfeiture of all equipment used in, and animals or pelts obtained through, the violation.

sample email I oppose SCR11 & S2750.
Please oppose SCR11The Dog proof trap (DP Trap) is not the same as the OLD steel foot trap. A three Judge panel of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court found in a unanimous decision that the N.J.
Please oppose S2750, this bill will ban the use of all traps used to control predators in the state of new jersey.

So if it does pass will your governor veto it? I don't know much about your governor, but he doesn't impress me too much as a supporter of hunters and trappers.

Read philly article better than most I have read. Real shame no one was available for interview. i received his email mid morning, emailed our committee about it, NJTA and NJFH, F+G and a few others. no one had a chance to respond yet, and my wife told me the article was posted online. i emailed him back, complaining about no mention of a dead line. no response.

I got this reply/email today. Thank you for your e-mail regarding SCR-11 and S-2750. SCR-11 would determine that the Fish and Game Council’s proposal to allow the use of enclosed foothold traps is inconsistent with the plain language and legislative intent of the 1984 law banning animal traps of the steel-jaw leghold type. And S-2750 would ban the manufacture, sale, possession, importation, transportation or use of certain traps. Both SCR-11 and S-2750 were referred to the Senate Environment and Energy Committee. While I am not a member of this committee, I will certainly keep your comments in mind should they come before us on the Senate floor for a final vote. In the meantime, you may wish to write to the chair of this committee to voice your views. His address is as follows: The Honorable Bob Smith 216 Stelton Road, Suite E-5 Piscataway, New Jersey 08854 sensmith@njleg.org For further information, you may track this bill or any legislation of interest to you by logging onto the New Jersey Legislative website at www.njleg.state.nj.us or by calling the Office of Legislative Services toll-free at 1-800-792-8630. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding this important bill. Your input is always welcomed and considered. Sincerely yours, Senator Joe Pennacchio Assistant Republican Leader

all TRAPPERS OPPOSE SCR11 & S2750 You need to email all the senators now! and Oppose SCR11 which would ban the dp trap and the new bill S2750. Bill S2750 has the potential to ban all traps and virtually eliminate trapping in NJ.
Here is the new wording for bill S2750
When you email please BCC that email to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can keep count how many emails opposed these bills. We ask that you email the senators as often as you can.
Senators emails SenVanDrew@njleg.org; SenWhelan@njleg.org; SenSweeney@njleg.org; SenMadden@njleg.org; SenBeach@njleg.org; SenAllen@njleg.org; SenAddiego@njleg.org; SenConnors@njleg.org; SenHolzapfel@njleg.org; SenBeck@njleg.org; SenThompson@njleg.org; SenKyrillos@njleg.org; SenGreenstein@njleg.org; SenTurner@njleg.org; SenBateman@njleg.org; SenBSmith@njleg.org; SenVitale@njleg.org; SenLesniak@njleg.org; SenKean@njleg.org; SenScutari@njleg.org; SenDoherty@njleg.org; SenOroho@njleg.org; SenBucco@njleg.org; SenPennacchio@njleg.org; SenCodey@njleg.org; SenRice@njleg.org; SenRuiz@njleg.org; SenSinger@njleg.org; SenCunningham@njleg.org; SenSacco@njleg.org; SenStack@njleg.org; SenGill@njleg.org; SenPou@njleg.org; SenSarlo@njleg.org; SenWeinberg@njleg.org; SenGordon@njleg.org; SenCardinale@njleg.org; SenOToole@njleg.org; SenCruzPerez@njleg.org; SenDiegnan@njleg.org

Please oppose S2750, this bill will ban the use of all traps used to control predators in the state of New Jersey. New Jersey has a ever growing problem with predators spreading diseases, killing pets and livestock and causing public safety hazards by attacking our children and damming or waterways and flooding our properties and roadways.

This is from another thread. I just had to respond to. Hay Newt while the snapper soup is simmering in the pot, why don't you send email, call, or post at the top of the page where it is titled "NJ Needs your Help". The antis are trying to BAN the DP trap I NJ. The post was started by "njtrapper1980" on 10/07/16. Not once have you (Newt) posted any encouraging words to the younger trappers, or any trapper for that mater, to call/write their Senator/Assemblyman. I see you commented on other posts. I'm not coming, paying money, to any trappers school, that has someone that won't stand up and fight for the DP trap, or any trappers rights. And if I need any snaring supplies I will get them from someone else. Won't buy anything from anyone that won't stand up for the DP trap or any other trapper/hunter/fishing rights. Jonesie I'm sorry none of this was directed to you, you have posted & helped on the fighting to keep the DP trap "NJ Needs your Help" post. We had a gang of seven trappers coming, & now that's not going to happen Ok Why did you not call me and talk to me.I have been involved in all of this.Starting back in 1980 or be for. Just because I havent had time to post a reply, to this post or other post.MIGHT just mean that I'm involoved in doing other stuff. Like making phone calls, writing letters. Talking to other sportsman like you. Working behind the seens.Thoes who know me know that. Further/: Im not on the puter all the time. When you see me on here,I'm working in the shop where I build snares. And then its when I need a break because my fingers got cramped or my back hurts for working at the snare building bench.Yes some early mornings (4-5 am)you will see a post from me.This is when I'm checking E-mails and for orders comming in.And only when I have time to screw off. Guess you realy dont know me. I'm not a sportsman. When I go trapping ,hunting I HAVE to do it with a pay check in mind. I make my living off the land and water. For the last 3 weeks I have been mending nets, then setting and fishing them, filling snare and supply orders, getting ready for the school. Along with all the other stuff I have to do just to live. I heat my house with wood. Its almost a full time job, just to keep up on that alone. As far as you or other trappers /snaremen, not buying from me. WE LIVE IN AMERICA. We have a choise.I cant or do I even try to please everyone ,YOU SIMPLY CANT. If I'm wrong I omit it. We are all sinners. If I ofended you with my responce. For give me,for I'm a man ,I will defend myself. JESUS my savior.WILL forgive me of my sins. TRULY I dont realy care what you think.[quote=Newt]

The trappers of NJ also have a second job that we must deal with along with the emails and phone calls, that is we need to educate the non trapping outdoors folks. Many outdoors folks really believe that the NJ F&W brought back the Foot hold trap as in the steel jawed leg hold. This is not the case,They did not bring this trap back, but they allowed the DP trap. Now to the trapper we know the difference, but to the non trapper they have no understanding of the difference until they see the trap, and even then they do not understand how the dp trap is different on the captured animal as far as perceived damage or non target catches. There are many outdoors folks, like it or not, that do not like trapping, mostly based on, not really knowing how this trap and tapping really is and how it has a positive effect on the state when trappers are trained before they get the lic, NJ has a mandatory 2 day trapping course covering laws, traps, methods, understanding social perceptions, and just plain being shown how to do it right and must pass a test before they can legally trap. The non trapping outdoors folks for the most part are for and support the trapper because they know we control populations and are in fact a free wildlife control to the NJ citizens. ADC 101 reduce the population reduce the damage. So we save the state problems with human / wildlife conflicts. Also A lesson that we the state, should have learned from the 1990's and have not is, with the explosion of rabies that was allowed because of the banned leg hold. Trappers caught 30,000 plus coon a year in 84 and only caught a fraction of that number in 1989. The population exploded!!!!! We must remember the thousands of folks that had to be treated with bites and exposures from pets being also attacked by infected animals like the Raccoon and skunk. We must realize that history will and is very close to repeating it's self again because of the ever growing coon population. the dp trap is the tool that NJ trappers can use to safely catch coon in great numbers with out catching dogs or problems to people when set properly.
Ok I know every one reading this knows all this, nothing new to the trapper!!!! but we must take this type of information and more, along with science and facts and educate the non trapping outdoors folks to gain more support and backing to defeat these 2 pieces of legislation. As was said before the trappers can not do this on our own we need help from the outdoors folks and other states.

I've been trying to get some hunters to call or email, but they don't seem to care. I guess they'll have fun with the coyotes that will run amuck when trapping is illegal!
