Re: new jersey needs your help - 10/13/16 07:23 PM

YOU need to oppose ACR25 and SCR11 NOW
BY What ever means that you are most comfortable with -- email, phone or fax -- you need to contact your local legislators - both Assembly and Senate because time is running out again! Encourage your friends and family to do the same.

These resolutions are being pushed forward in an effort to take the DP Trap away. They want to compare it to a steel-jawed leg hold trap which is NOT true.

If both of these resolutions pass the two houses, it becomes LAW!

Please contact your local legislators, not just once, but over and over, to voice your opinion.

Link to find your Assembly members and Senators:
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/districts/municipalities.asp

Link to ACR125 - http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2016/Bills/ACR/125_I1.HTM

Link to SCR11 - http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2016/Bills/SCR/11_I1.HTM

This information that follows is from our previous email blast: "The encapsulating trap or commonly known as the Dog Proof Trap (DP trap) is not the same type trap as the steel jawed leg hold trap that was banned in 1984. This trap has its own classification in the North American trap standards (BMP) and The International Trap Standards (ISO) The DP Trap in fact would have been an alternate trap for raccoons if it was developed at that time of the legislation to be implemented as stated in the 1984 Statue 23:4-22.4 portion of the law banning the steel jawed leg hold trap. The DP Trap was not in use at the time of the 1984 ban so there for could not be adopted to fulfill the total law. This trap fills all the criteria of the law as the adopted trap and the NJ Fish and Wildlife Council acted in accordance of the law both in the trap and adopting an alternative trap.

What I do is write a message that is fairly universal such as: "I oppose SCR175 and am highly concerned about the possibility of increased rabies in animals in my area."

IT IS NOW OR NEVER. PLEASE MAKE THE CALL and then get at least two more people to do the same. If we lose the DP it will not stop there.

Thank you,

Re: new jersey needs your help - 10/14/16 02:40 AM

ACR25 has come out of committee it now will go to the floor for a vote. Senate SCR11 has not been voted on in committee yet. These are resolutions to the 1984 leg hold ban saying that the DP Trap is a steel jawed leg hold.. if these 2 resolutions pass floors then it becomes law. does not go to governors desk. they are trying to change intent of the 84 ban from banning steel jawed leg holds to mean all foot traps. we need every active and inactive trapper along with every outdoorsmen in NJ to call or right as often as they can to oppose SCR11 to the senate and ACR25 to the Assembly. This is more than a anti trapping issue, if they can change intent on legislation then they will go after hunters next. this is the real thing. Simple say I oppose ACR25 or I oppose SCR11.

Please also call your assembly people about Acr 25. Very important to also call all the senators on the Senate Environment & Energy Committee. Thats where the resolution SCR 11 is right now . If we can keep it in the committee it will help greatly. Thanks to all that are writing and calling. Don't stop now call and write weekly or better twice a week. "They" are making a lot of noise about this. All sportsmen have to do the same before its too late.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 10/16/16 12:32 PM

NJ and out of staters we need to move NOW
On the 20th of Oct that's right this Thursday, The assembly floor will vote to ban the DP trap again. What they want to do is change the intent of the 1984 legislation to fit what they want today. truth is they want to stop trapping. And the DP is the first step. They are doing this with false statement, (I am not allowed to say the word lies) This is a very bad place to be, as if they can change intent on this legislation they can then do it anywhere they want just because they don't like something. Science and BMP testing shows that the DP trap or Encapsulating trap is not the same as the steel jawed trap that was banned. yet in a video the AR groups sent out to the Legislators showed a Steel Jawed leg hold in a clear box and said is what NJ Fish and Wildlife is calling a Encapsulating trap. we need to call every Assemblymen and women this week every day. we need to make the phone ring off the wall. they need to not only hear from trappers but also outdoorsmen and women. Please take 5 mins every day till Thursday to call at least your 2 assembly persons and tell them you oppose ACR25 and you oppose them trying to change intent of the 1984 legislation.

Shoot over to the NJ fur harvesters Face Book page for example letter and list of assembly persons. NJ Trappers also has list of Assembly persons

Re: new jersey needs your help - 10/18/16 12:56 PM

Assembly will most likely pass Need to keep the pressure up on them though make them see the we are opposed to ACR25 we need to hit the Senate committee hard now with calls and writing opposing SCR11. Then go right to the senate floor also. Need to stop in committee but in case we can't we need to be working on floor. the video that the AR groups made with the 1.5 steel jawed leg hold in the box and calling it an encapsulating trap really did some damage. It looks like maybe and I may be wrong but the legislators may not doing any fact checking!!!!! Need to point that out. The encapsulating trap we are using is the Dog Proof not a steel jawed leg hold.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 10/18/16 08:50 PM

Just finished today's rounds of calls/emails. Ive seem to have more success selling this to my hunting friends by piggybacking SCR-11 to S-2702 (the bear bill) Telling people to mention both bills when contacting their legislator. The possibility of losing the bear hunt and not being able to bait deer in "bear habitat" is a big motivator.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/01/16 01:35 PM

To get things in prospective. The law suit was ruled that the DP trap is not a Steel jawed leg hold and that the Fish and Wildlife council has the authority to adopt this trap as a replacement for the Leg hold. That is good but the war is still not over. The senate can still act on the SCR11 and place the DP trap into the banned category. We need to keep telling the Senate committee and the senate floor in a respectful way that we want them to look at science and facts on the DP trap. To seek real information and council on the trap from the authorities like Fish and Wildlife, BMP’s for examples. To look at the fact that with just one season the DP trap increased the raccoon take by 5000 raccoons, with low fur prices, and NO negative impact on pets, livestock or humans. This is important for NJ as we are on the edge of another rabies outbreak. right now, our numbers are back to the late 80's numbers. If we hit the 90's numbers, the pockets of rabies will go state wide again like it did in the 1990. This tool can increase the raccoon catch with more efficiently with less non-targets catches with a higher social acceptance once folks see the trap. We need to show that the DP trap does not cause the damage and animals can be released when set properly. The trap is a for the most part a species-specific trap for raccoons and opossums, Non-targets such as dog will not be caught by the pull system. the DP trap is not a steel jawed foot trap. The trap is the best tool to control the raccoons in the state of NJ with the least amount of negative problems.

We need to stay on facts when writing emails. for some reason phone calls, may not be documented correctly we are advising folks to call but e mails are important. When you email, please BCC the email to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can have a record of the emails being sent.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/07/16 09:57 PM

When talking to folks we need to key in on Dog proof or dp. The AR groups are telling every one that we are using the Foot trap. old trappers that quite trapping 30 years ago when we started using cable are calling me excited that we are getting the foot trap back!!!! Wrong we will never get the Foot trap back in NJ. the dog proof trap also has a calming effect on dog men knowing that this trap is not going to catch the dogs.

Here is the link to the vid the groups sent out to our legislators notice the traps that is on the intro and the trap they demo as a encapsulating trap. and people believe this stuff.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/11/16 03:14 PM

here is the new wording on s2750. it would ban even cable restraints the way it is written. everyone please call and email we need you to help us now.

This bill would ban the manufacture, sale, offer for sale, possession, importation, or transportation of a trap that is a spring-loaded device that restrains an animal by capturing the foot, leg, or other body part, including an enclosed foothold type trap or any other type trap that uses a jaw, arm, bar, cable, or wire to grasp or pin the animal’s foot, leg, or other body part. The bill would also prohibit a person from trapping or attempting to trap an animal using such a trap. The bill specifies that a mouse trap or rat trap designed for use in and under buildings is not a trap prohibited by the bill. A person who violates the bill would be subject to a civil fine of $100 to $300 for a first offense, $500 to $700 for a second offense, and $1,000 to $2,500 for a third or subsequent offense, plus confiscation and forfeiture of all equipment used in, and animals or pelts obtained through, the violation.

This is just a suggestion. We had a battle two years ago over the use of 220's on land. Lots of folks sent emails but the large barrage of phone calls made the biggest difference. Calling every senator and representative state wide. The phone calls made the difference.
Good luck to ya. Hopefully you can try to get foothold traps back.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/16/16 12:29 AM

We need more trappers and outdoors folks emailing, you folks are doing great but we need more. 1400 plus active trappers in the state 4 times that inactive trappers in the state. Trappers need to write emails opposing S2750. we also need none trappers. This one is a bad one for the trappers of NJ, but will be worst for the folks of NJ when the rabies takes off again. NJ trappers are in the most populated state in the nation. It takes us one hour to go across the state from east to west and 3.5 hours to drive from the tip in the south to the state line in the north. and that is because of traffic LOL Heck most states have counties bigger than NJ LOL The NJ trapper is the free wildlife control for the state.

I saw the numbers the other night at the committee meeting. In 1984 when we lost the foot trap, NJ lic trappers numbered 4 to 5 thousand and we caught 40,000 raccoons state wide. with in a few years we dropped to 600 trappers. and stayed at that number for many years.(Most trappers left because they just could not get use to the non lethal body gripping snare. today it is called a cable restraint) In 2014/15 we numbered 1400 plus active trappers and we caught 7000 plus coons in cages and cable. 2015/16 with fur prices at 3 to 5 bucks a coon, those same 1400 plus NJ trappers had their first season using the DP trap and we caught 12,600 give or take coons. The wording in this bill is open ended and can really take all of our tools. coni's and cable. and maybe even cages in some cases. WE NEED MORE FOLKS WRITING EMAIL, and thank you to you that are doing your part.
Thank you again.

Please oppose SCR11The Dog proof trap (DP Trap) is not the same as the OLD steel foot trap.
A three Judge panel of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court found in a unanimous decision that the N.J. Fish and Game Council acted within its rights and the intent of the 1984 law that banned the steel jawed leg hold trap when it legalized the dog proof trap for use during the 2015/2016 trapping season. The court also ruled that the dog proof trap was not a steel jawed leg hold trap as defined in the 1984 law. The trap that was in question is “foot enclosing” and does not operate as jaws with only one movable side of the trap.

New Jersey rabid raccoon attacks have been endangering public health for some time. These are just a few of the instances where the public was effected and endangered.

· Boonton Township, Morris County Park, July 27, 2016. A 76-year-old Morris County man was attacked by a raccoon, park closed after attack.

· Police warning residents of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. after Raccoon attacks. June 20, 2016.

· A raccoon attacks terrifying neighbors in Denville.

Despite an expanding raccoon population in New Jersey and the high rate of rabies found in that population, the New Jersey Assembly voted to ban the use of the encapsulated Dog Proof trap as a means of controlling raccoons.

Subsequently this new trap was reviewed by the New Jersey Attorney General who found it to be a legal alternative to the steel jawed leg hold trap that was banned by statute in 1985 and the results from the first seasons use of this trap indicates an increase in the raccoon harvest and not a single reported case of a non-targeted species being captured

Please oppose S2750, this bill will ban the use of all traps used to control predators in the state of new jersey.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/17/16 12:09 AM

SCR11 is a resolution to the already 1984 banning of the leg hold, does not go to Gov. The S2750 would have to go to the gov. The Gov has helped the outdoorsmen for the most part in the past but who knows what he will do this is NJ politics??????

I wasn't trying to point fingers. Just making a statement. It was the first article I've read that wasn't straight out ar propaganda. I know you all do all you can and for that Thank You.
This am I sent emails for both scr11 & s2750. That's 80 emails and out of those 16 actually got opened. Yesterday 12. Since I started sending these since acr25 passed I have only got one reply. Very disheartening. I did see that the energy and environment committee meets Monday don't know if any of this is on the table for then.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/17/16 07:54 PM

I got this reply/email today.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding SCR-11 and S-2750.  SCR-11 would determine that the Fish and Game Council’s proposal to allow the use of enclosed foothold traps is inconsistent with the plain language and legislative intent of the 1984 law banning animal traps of the steel-jaw leghold type. And S-2750 would ban the manufacture, sale, possession, importation, transportation or use of certain traps.

Both SCR-11 and S-2750 were referred to the Senate Environment and Energy Committee.  While I am not a member of this committee, I will certainly keep your comments in mind should they come before us on the Senate floor for a final vote.  In the meantime, you may wish to write to the chair of this committee to voice your views.  His address is as follows:

            The Honorable Bob Smith
            216 Stelton Road, Suite E-5
            Piscataway, New Jersey  08854
            sensmith@njleg.org

For further information, you may track this bill or any legislation of interest to you by logging onto the New Jersey Legislative website at www.njleg.state.nj.us or by calling the Office of Legislative Services toll-free at 1-800-792-8630.  Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding this important bill. Your input is always welcomed and considered.

Sincerely yours,

Senator Joe Pennacchio
Assistant Republican Leader

all TRAPPERS OPPOSE SCR11 & S2750
You need to email all the senators now! and Oppose SCR11 which would ban the dp trap and the new bill S2750. Bill S2750 has the potential to ban all traps and virtually eliminate trapping in NJ.

Here is the new wording for bill S2750

When you email please BCC that email to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can keep count how many emails opposed these bills. We ask that you email the senators as often as you can.

· A rabid raccoon attacks and mauls a six-year-old boy on his way to school in Elmwood Park, N.J. January, 28, 2016.

New Jersey has a ever growing problem with predators spreading diseases, killing pets and livestock and causing public safety hazards by attacking our children and damming or waterways and flooding our properties and roadways.

I'm not coming, paying money, to any trappers school, that has someone that won't stand up and fight for the DP trap, or any trappers rights. Further/: Im not on the puter all the time. When you see me on here,I'm working in the shop where I build snares. And then its when I need a break because my fingers got cramped or my back hurts for working at the snare building bench.Yes some early mornings (4-5 am)you will see a post from me.This is when I'm checking E-mails and for orders comming in.And only when I have time to screw off.
Guess you realy dont know me.
I'm not a sportsman. When I go trapping ,hunting I HAVE to do it with a pay check in mind. I make my living off the land and water.
For the last 3 weeks I have been mending nets, then setting and fishing them, filling snare and supply orders, getting ready for the school.
Along with all the other stuff I have to do just to live. I heat my house with wood. Its almost a full time job, just to keep up on that alone.

As far as you or other trappers /snaremen, not buying from me.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/22/16 05:59 PM

First I want to thank every one for sending e-mails to the legislators and the committee. Please this is very important and we need to keep sending them. Another thing is please this is not the time or the place to have any type of conflict between people. Some people are on the computer daily through this post and others are sending their e-mails and not discussing it on the site. If you look at my name you'll see this is only my 3rd post since 2009. I read trapperman almost everyday but do not post at all. The situation with these resolutions and bills are so serious to trapping is the reason I have written these couple of posts. So guys please put your differences aside and do not put it in print. We need everyone we can get to stick together and send the emails. Also make sure you bcc to njfedtrap@gmail.com this lets us keep track of all the emails sent. Believe me there are many people and organizations working together on this problem mostly behind the scenes and we are making headway. So please get everyone you can to send the emails so we can beat this thing.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/23/16 01:31 PM

The trappers of NJ also have a second job that we must deal with along with the emails and phone calls, that is we need to educate the non trapping outdoors folks. Many outdoors folks really believe that the NJ F&W brought back the Foot hold trap as in the steel jawed leg hold. This is not the case,They did not bring this trap back, but they allowed the DP trap. Now to the trapper we know the difference, but to the non trapper they have no understanding of the difference until they see the trap, and even then they do not understand how the dp trap is different on the captured animal as far as perceived damage or non target catches. There are many outdoors folks, like it or not, that do not like trapping, mostly based on, not really knowing how this trap and tapping really is and how it has a positive effect on the state when trappers are trained before they get the lic, NJ has a mandatory 2 day trapping course covering laws, traps, methods, understanding social perceptions, and just plain being shown how to do it right and must pass a test before they can legally trap. The non trapping outdoors folks for the most part are for and support the trapper because they know we control populations and are in fact a free wildlife control to the NJ citizens. ADC 101 reduce the population reduce the damage. So we save the state problems with human / wildlife conflicts. Also A lesson that we the state, should have learned from the 1990's and have not is, with the explosion of rabies that was allowed because of the banned leg hold. Trappers caught 30,000 plus coon a year in 84 and only caught a fraction of that number in 1989. The population exploded!!!!! We must remember the thousands of folks that had to be treated with bites and exposures from pets being also attacked by infected animals like the Raccoon and skunk. We must realize that history will and is very close to repeating it's self again because of the ever growing coon population. the dp trap is the tool that NJ trappers can use to safely catch coon in great numbers with out catching dogs or problems to people when set properly.

Ok I know every one reading this knows all this, nothing new to the trapper!!!! but we must take this type of information and more, along with science and facts and educate the non trapping outdoors folks to gain more support and backing to defeat these 2 pieces of legislation. As was said before the trappers can not do this on our own we need help from the outdoors folks and other states.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 12/07/16 10:50 PM

GOT ANOTHER REPLY TODAY

I was told that they are more like to open mail from people in their district. ???
If you send an email via the nj legislature site, it prompts you to enter your zip code. If you live in the district of the senators behind this bill, definitely send one via the site. It can't hurt.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 12/08/16 09:04 PM

Received correspondence from Senator Doherty. He stated that he is inclined to NOT support SCR-11. In addition he agreed that the animal rights groups will not be satisfied until all trapping and hunting is banned in NJ. He is also opposed to the "Pedals Bill". Anyone in District 23 should strongly support Senator Doherty, as he appears to be a strong supporter of the NJ Sportsman.

Re: Leghold Traps (ACR-25)
DeAngelo, Asm. D.O. <AsmDeAngelo@njleg.org>
Today at 3:11 PM

Thank you for reaching out to my office regarding Assembly Concurrent Resolution 25 (ACR-25) which determines the Fish and Game Council’s allowance of the use of enclosed leghold traps as inconsistent with the law adopted in 1984 which banned their use. I deeply appreciate hearing from constituents about the issues they feel passionately about as it allows me to better represent them in the General Assembly.

During my tenure in the General Assembly I have supported strengthening the prevention of animal ab use and protection of the quality of life for all animals alike. We must ensure that we treat all forms of life with care and carefully monitor all possible situations where abuse may arise. In the past, New Jersey’s elected officials have taken action by banning the use of enclosed leghold traps in our state. On November 20, 2016, me and my colleagues in the General Assembly approved ACR-25 to uphold the legislative intent of the current New Jersey leghold trap law. This measure currently awaits a full vote in the State Senate for its next step in the legislative process.

Thank you once again for writing to me regarding this issue. If you have any other matters of concern in the future, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo
Deputy Speaker
14th Legislative District

I Oppose A4407 got a response today.

Good Morning,

I'm not inclined to support the book notion unless it starts in the term of the next governor. This has historically been the policy and I am loathe to change it. The salary increase was to be for office employees, who have not had a cost of living raise since 2002, NOT legislators. I will not be voting for this.

Please feel free to call me if you'd like to discuss this or any other issue with me, I enjoy hearing from constituents. Here's my cell number 201-753-2086

Just to let folks know these bills will not die in Jan. I have been told these are in a 2 year schedule, so we have another full year to deal with them.
Hey we can look at it this way we have a full year to unite the NJ outdoorsmen and women. The good news is nothing is moving but when it does we will need folks to testify at the drop of a hat. The vote will most likely be posted on a Friday and voted on a few days later. Ryan What % opened the last blitz?

Re: new jersey needs your help - 12/29/16 08:50 PM

Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to ACR-25 which seeks to overturn the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) rule allowing the use of leghold traps.

I believe New Jersey should defer to the experts at the Division of Fish & Wildlife who have deemed these traps to be appropriate and consistent with our laws. As such, I voted against this measure when it came before the Assembly on October 20. However, despite my opposition, the bill was approved and now awaits action in the Senate.

Please know I will take your views into consideration should I be given the opportunity to vote on any legislation related to hunting and trapping.

Thank you again for your correspondence on this important issue and please feel free to contact me if I can ever be of assistance in this or any other matter.

Sincerely,

David P. Rible

(A4407) - They are trying to take away everything, from owning to selling supplies, etc.

RE: Please Oppose SCR11 & S2750
Pennacchio, Sen. D.O. <SenPennacchio@njleg.org>
Today at 1:12 PM

Re: new jersey needs your help - 02/14/17 12:21 AM

just got this email
Dear Mr. xxxx,

Thank you for contacting my office regarding Assembly Concurrent Resolution 25.

As you know, ACR-25 determines that the Fish and Gaming Council’s adopted rule to allow the use of enclosed foothold traps is inconsistent with plain language and legislative intent of the 1984 law banning steel-jaw leg hold animal trap types.

Late last year the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court ruled that the Fish & Game Council’s adopted rule was within the legislative intent of the 1984 act – thus making ACR25 unnecessary and moot. The bill is no longer being pursued in either house of the Legislature.

Please feel free to contact my office regarding any other questions or concerns you may have. My door is always open.

Kindest Regards,

Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo

Re: new jersey needs your help - 03/01/17 02:09 PM

I was at the state house yesterday with the NJOA talking to some of our legislators about S2750 and A4407, and a few other bills that are effecting the outdoors. For the most part It was good. We talked about the human health concerns, pet concerns, rabies, Human / wildlife conflicts, We showed the DP trap and the differences the dp trap has compared to the steel Jawed foot trap that was banned back in 1984. As a note, I did not meet one legislator that was there in 1984 when the ban happened. I was the only one in the room that was there when it happened, made me feel old LOL But also made me realize that I was the only one that really understood and knew what the legislation was first hand!!!!!!!! The legislation that is being pushed today is based on emotion, and wanted interpretation, not the law. Let us understand totally, These bills are not a trap bill but a anti trapping bill. We Talked on how these bills, will be a negative to not only the trappers, but to the whole state. These bills will remove the ability to protect the folks of NJ from many problems that will rise from growing populations of not only the raccoon but from fox , coyote, skunks, muskrats and beaver just to to mention a few of the major Human / wildlife conflicts. We have a long hard battle in front of us. and if we can get through this year these bills will be re introduced again next year!!!!! And we need to stay in front, in the battle, for if we let up we will loose.

I realized yesterday more than I had already had known, that the trapper is the only one who really knows and understands what we do. I found many times yesterday, that as I was talking about the trapping issues and talking about the DP trap, that many of the other outdoors men that was in the room would draw near and listen with great attention to what was being said. The non trapping outdoors men, have as many questions about trapping and the traps we use as the non outdoors public has!!!!!!! The anti Trapper has their minds made up, we will not change them, as they will not change US!!! As I talked to one of the sponsors of the bills, we both agreed that we will never be on the same page but we must disagree in a respectful MANOR, that was hard as I know all the un-truths that will come out from the folks against us!!!!! See I could have be disrespectful and said they was lairs. LOL Respectful manor.

One question or statement was that the DP trap has the spring force to break bones!!!!!!!! I showed how this in not the case on a factory DP trap and explained that we as trappers and ADC men do not want the animal to be harmed or to have bones broken. We want to be able to turn the animal loose if we see it is say a small one or the fur quality is not what we want. Another statement that outdoors men and the non outdoors public have said is, that we trappers enjoyed killing. I talked about how we as trappers have more emotion and connection with the wildlife than anyone else, that we have to know more about the target animals than anyone else, so we can catch them, and we must know a lot about the non targets so we do not want to catch them. And that we feel joy and sadness every time we put a animal down, we just understand life and death maybe more than anyone else.

I want to thank each and every one of you that are sending emails and BCC them. But we need more folks, We need more trappers both NJ and other states opposing S2750 and A4407, on science not emotion, and we need to keep them going until the end of the year I know I know but they will wait for the best time to vote on these bills and you know when that will be that's right right when all we want to think about is setting sets and when they can spread false truths to the other outdoors men on how we will hurt there dogs, See Respectful manor!!!! we need to get the real truth to the NJ outdoors men and women and get them writing emails also. to show if the trapper looses to these bills we do not loose a trap we loose trapping completely and that he next smaller user group will be keyed on. By they way they have their eyes on trophy hunting both abroad and deer, and Dog hunters are also in their sights as this is also positions that the non outdoors general public can be swayed. Ok enough for this chapter.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 04/26/17 10:22 AM

got this in the mail from Oroho and Space-------

Once again legislators are advancing bills on issues without knowing all the facts.
These traps are consistent with New Jersey law and are needed by our trappers.

We oppose these bills and believe that legislative majoritiers need to work onproperty tax relief and job creation instead of nonsensical bills like these.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 06/27/17 08:41 PM

GOT A REPLY TODAY. SEE BELOW.

Here is a reply I received today.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding SCR-11 and S-2750/ A-4407.

SCR-11 would determine that the Fish and Game Council’s proposal to allow the use of enclosed foothold traps is inconsistent with the plain language and legislative intent of the 1984 law banning animal traps of the steel-jaw leg hold type. S-2750/ A-4407 would ban the manufacture, sale, possession, importation, transportation or use of certain traps.

SCR-11 and S-2750/ A-4407 were referred to the Senate Environment and Energy Committee.  While I am not a member of this committee, I will certainly keep your comments in mind should this Resolution come before us on the Senate floor for a final vote.  In the meantime, you may wish to write to the chair of this committee to voice your views.  His address is as follows:

Re: new jersey needs your help - 11/08/17 01:59 PM

Well the results are in for the new Governor and it is not good for the outdoorsmen and trappers of NJ. The bear hunt will be the first the battle. If that battle is lost by us then the trapping bills will be next is my guess. If we win the bear battle then the trapping will be the next battle LOL So trappers and NJ outdoorsmen we better get our acts together. Because the trapping bills will be addressed. The AR groups will not let it go and they have legislators on their side. For those of you writing and emailing thank you keep going. We need to key in on both committees hard and write the committee members not just the chair. Remember to bcc the email to njfedtrap@gmail.com

Raccoon attacks baby and drags her out of bed in Philadelphia, mom says
Last Updated Dec 22, 2017 8:54 AM EST
PHILADELPHIA — A baby had to undergo surgery after being attacked by a raccoon inside a North Philadelphia home earlier this week. CBS Philadelphia reports that four-month-old Journi Black is on a long road to recovery after a raccoon attacked her inside a home on the 2100 block of North 22nd Street on Wednesday night.
"It's just ridiculous," said Samuel Black, the girl's father. "My daughter could have lost her life."

Journi Black underwent surgery at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children after being attacked by a raccoon. CBS Philadelphia
Animal control officers set a trap for the raccoon to prevent this from happening again. Doctors told the family it will take at least a year for the baby to fully recover.
"My daughter was laying on the bed sleeping and I went to take my son to the bathroom. We heard a sound upstairs and we see a raccoon run down the steps," said Ashley Rodgers, the child's mother. "When I finally got to her, she was laying on the floor so it had dragged her off the bed, across the room, and she was bleeding and crying and her whole face was red."
It's been mere days since Rodgers moved into the home with her daughter and 6-year-old son, Jordan. Other tenants also reportedly rent rooms there, though no one inside would come to the door or speak on-camera.
A spokeswoman for the city's Licenses and Inspections Department tells Eyewitness News the homeowner, who purchased the property in May, does not have a rental license and that if he is renting rooms, he is doing so illegally.
"It needs to be shut down. Everybody needs to leave out of there," Rodgers said.
Rodgers says she contacted her landlord after the first raccoon sighting earlier in the evening, something neighbors say is common, especially with trash in the area.
"It's terrible around here with these raccoons, yes it is," said Barbara Butler.
Rodgers says her landlord told her he had chased the raccoon out. But after the raccoon attacked the baby, the landlord rushed her to the hospital. The family says it intends to pursue legal action.
"It is his responsibility. There's no reason an animal should have gotten into the house with minors," Black said.
CBS Philadelphia reached out to that landlord; he first hung up on us then called back to say everything has been resolved and to contact his lawyer. However, he would not provide his attorney's name or number. Meantime, the baby is still in recovery at St. Christopher's Hospital and has had her rabies shots.

Here we go again, get ready for another fight!
S179 was brought up in the Environment and Energy Committee. This bill is the same wording as last years bill S2750 and is in the same committee just under a different number. This bill will eliminate all trapping except mice and rats in your house (good luck finding a market for them). We need everyone to write, email and call the committee members and tell them you oppose this bill. If you email please also BCC to njfedtrap@gmail.com so we can keep a count how many emailed so they cant say no one opposed the bill. Below is the 5 members of the committee you need to contact and also the wording of Bill S179.

Hope everyone is having a great trapping season and new year.

Got this reply:
Thank you for contacting me regarding SCR11, S2750, and A4406. I wanted to let you know that these bills were part of the previous legislative session (2016-2017) which concluded on January 8, 2018. I have had my staff check the records of bills that were re-introduced for consideration during the current legislative session (2018-2019) which began on January 9, 2018. The bills you have referenced were not reintroduced in any manner; currently there are no bills or resolutions concerning animal traps. I hope you find this information useful. Please continue to voice your opinions and concerns on legislation.

Re: new jersey needs your help - 06/22/18 11:58 PM

Nyhuntfish,
I CONTACT THOSE PEOPLE EVERY WEEK. THIS IS THE LIST I USE.
http://www.anjrpc.org/page/Contact_legislators

Fisherman,
Its tough, but NJ is my home.
I call & send letters every week of the year.
I was hoping when this post started that the all the NJ people on this site would join in. At least it would show the younger NJ trappers how to go about contacting our government and fight for what we have left. As you can see there isn't any help at all. You watch the other posts on this site. If there are people asking for help with snares or ADC help, people from NJ jump right in. I have been trapping for 48 yrs, I'm 58 now. My sons trap, now by 4 grandsons are going along. Its good to do things & fight behind the scenes, but when you have a trapping site like this one that reaches people all over the world, you should show everyone how your going about fighting for out trapping rights. As you can see there are not many replies from this post. I could keep on typing but don't want to get kicked off the site. The last time I typed to much I offended people. Sorry but thats how I feel.

Got this same old "Auto" reply today. But it was more than the others in Government replied.

Thank you for contacting the constituent outreach center for Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo. I greatly appreciate your correspondence on matters of great importance to you. I, or a member of my staff, will reply to you as soon as possible. Because of the volume of daily messages and the often complex nature of issues, however, there may be a slight delay in providing you with a thorough response.

Please note that my office has relocated to The Shoppes at Nottingham Pointe located at 4621A Nottingham Way , Hamilton , NJ 08690 . The phone number will remain the same at (609) 631-7501.

Again, thank you for your correspondence and I look forward to continuing to hear from the residents of the 14th District.

I received this in my mail today.

Do you know anything about it? Can you contact someone in that township?

NJFH Member,

Harding township Morris County NJ is introducing a resolution tonight with a second reading scheduled in December which will ban the trapping of red fox and coyote within the township by any means.

It has been introduced on the guise of preserving predators of the white footed mouse.

We will forward more info as we hear more.
