I'm also a big fan of the plastic pan. They should have them at wal mart or local hardware store. Mine aren't victor they are made by tomcat and also gets lots of abuse from Vole trapping sitting out all the time.

Bought a few dozen @ http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/, they have great customer service as well. The big box stores tend not to have them on the shelves, you have to order them and have them shipped to the store /house. Once the pan and trigger rod rust up on them traditional's, or if you just feel they're not firing like they should. Take a piece of fine sandpaper and sand the end of the trigger rod and the pan where it sets, or straighten the edge where the rod sets with a pair of pliers. Drop of vegetable oil/Vaseline etc, to keep it firing. To this day I haven't had any mice avoid traps with them two things on the trap. If you choose to buy a dozen of the pro models, file down the end of the trigger rod on an angle, just a hair where it connects to the pan. There's a few different methods, bending the rod works too, but the file keeps the rod straight, this will give the trap a hair trigger. Just keep the bait in the pocket or towards the rear of the pan.

DaveK's link is a good read, and brings up an interesting question, Where do the deader's go after eating poison? I think they go out to die, or the others eat them. Any opinions?? I am a big fan of the plastic traps with a hole in the pan for the bait cup to show thru. However they are almost a 1 time use, for they sure don't hold up for crap. The dog notch breaks off and it's trash. Somebody with a 3D printer could make a few bucks printing off replacements. LOL

Not a fan of poisons, but on occasion they do have their place, anyone can drop a block of poison and then walk away. IMO, IMHO if you keep your traps in working order, you should be able to take care of the issue. EatenByLimestone typed it, sealing up is what needs to happen, if you're able to locate the entries. A lot of mice seem to die in all the wrong places when using rodenticide imo. You don't need to be a professional to handle rodents, little common knowledge of them and knowledge of hand tools for exclusion work goes a long way. I've seen many "professionals" go into a rodent control job only to make it difficult for the next one because they failed on their attempt. The license is just a piece of paper to grant you permission to do this year round, test is pretty simple. Good luck, happy wife happy life....

Go to the Dollar Store. 4 mouse traps for a buck. They never get old because you throw them away when they start to look shabby. Besides, it's fun to watch the expression on the clerk's face when you have a cart full of mouse traps. You can always say something cool, like "My wife thinks she saw a mouse." LOL, I've found those 4/$1 traps are mostly crap. I've had them literally fly apart when trying to set, and for some reason they are hard to fire and the mouse will eat the bait without firing it.

Get a bucket add some water to it about a gallon. Make a ramp that leads up that bucket a piece of wood. Add some bacon grease or something on the inside of the walls. Once they jump in they will drown after getting tired of swimming. Then you will have bait for fox trapping next fall.
Water is good for two things, Floating Ships and making Beer.
