Going to be getting two new service vehicles both will be trucks Let's hear what you have and how you like it. I currently have a 2005 Chevy Silverado extended cab And a 2011 Chevy Silverado extended cab. My problem is that the new Chevy Is too big for me to work out of I can't reach in the bed of the truck or reach the Ladder racks. I am leaning towards two Chevy Colorado's or Toyotas. I'll be buying used but I don't want Two different vehicles. What do you other short guys out there use?

You didn't mention it, but I'll never own another truck without the extended cab AND a 3rd/4th door. You can buy step pockets that you cut out the bed side to fit and screw in place. A bed extension that fits into a trailer hitch socket can be invaluable.

My only real requirement in a vehicle is it has to be white so I can letter it. Not very picky when it comes to make/model as long as I think I am getting good value for my money.
I think you are going to have the best luck finding two similar vehicles if you stick with the Colorado or the GMC version, the Canyon.
I replaced a 05 f150 four door with a 2012 Ford transit connect. I don't think I would go back to a full size. It's not just gas, it tires and brakes and maintainence. Everything is more expensive when full size. I do have a Canyon, no complaints.

I think a lot depends on what you want to carry & how far you are willing travel to get something you need, true , most full size are more to run, but carry a little more. Most small trucks you can not compare to full size weather it be bed size or cab size. I've seen some go to a smaller truck, only to start pulling a trailer, no savings their. Not to compare different brand trucks, but I had a 2003 Ford F-150 that lasted to April of 2015, replaced transmission , bearings ,tires, and all the rest that follows, millage with that truck with all aboard was about 14 mpg average. Went to a 2012 F-250 with a 6.2 liter engine, same load on truck, but milage changed, about 18 mpg average and everything being HD, will last a little longer

Have a 2014 F150 Crew and love it. My 2005 F150 went 140k on the orig ball joints, bearings and calipers so it didn't owe me a $. New truck has the 5.0...has more power than the old 5.4L and I can squeek out 23mpg on a trip in the pocket. 18-19 around town.

You will do fine with those. That guy in Highland Park always has a lot for sale. About 55 miles away from me. Got to be quite a trip for you.
Last vehicle I bought brand new. It was a Ram Promaster. Out the door was $20.5k and they paid to get it lettered. Take the vehicle in your link. Looked at quite a few in that year/mileage/price range. If our vehicles last the same number of miles. I bought 130,000 miles for $10k is how I looked at it.
