I have noticed an interest in fleshing beams over the years since my membership on this forum. And, since I am retired and have a little extra time, thought I would take the time to solicit "yours" in photo form to develop a compilation of them similar to my expressions spent in a similar fashion with notions of my "Muskrat Floats" journal that met the archives here.

My photo album has a few of them gathered with notations of there sources, named from here, but I would like to see more to round out my entry in this trail of thought for show and tell.

My only "pump" with this trigger is to fill the archives here with an education.

Thank you for the listen!

Jonathan

johnathan,

here's two pics of my double beam. i use the wooden one for smaller critters. and the pvc beam for beaver and larger coon. all were homemade. the wooden beam came from a demolition job on a commercial building in the kansas city area. originally it was a floor joist in a building over 100 years old. it's yellow pine and hard as concrete. took a "few" hours to get it into the shape i prefer.

the entire unit is stablized by one cleat on the "back" bottom edge of the carriage that is "slip-fitted" snugly under the toe-kick on my work bench. both work very well for me and my methods. hope these pics help you out.

the grump.

2x6 hardwood. I used a wire coon stretcher for a pattern for the taper. Cut it out with a band saw, and sanded smooth with a belt sander.

Here are a couple of pics of mine. I have two that I purchased from the catalogs, 6" and the 8". Both are set up to be portable and can be moved to what ever location Im fleshing in. I have an over head shop light and can slid the beam under the light to see what Im doing. When Im done they can be folded up and stored out of the way.

I made the bench in 1997 after seeing one like it at a traditional archery event. A friend and I eyeballed it and this is what we came up with. It works slick. The seat position is adjustable for comfort and leg length( to reach the foot pegs). The beam slides freely and locks in the position that you want by pushing on the foot rest dowels. A simple spring clamp will hold the pelt at the beam tip as you work.( no more pushing with your belly).Various width/length beams can be used. The angle adjustment is made by moving the dowel on the notches. The position show is the one I use mostly. It looks in the photo like there is not much beam surface to work on but it is as far as I can reach comfortably with the seat in this position.
The main frame 2 x 6"s are 48". The top piece that the beam rests on is 30" and the piece attached to it's underside with the notches is 25 1/2". The uprights with the dowels and rounded ends are 28 1/2". Seat height can be what ever you want, but 18" is normal. I hope this helps.
