I'm looking at getting some #4 newhouses for beaver trapping. I like the nostalgia of them and they seem to be well built traps. I was wondering what the average price of a run of the mill user #4 Newhouse will be?

Thanks, Alex

You should be able to pick some up in the $25.00 to $40.00 range, in my opinion.

A$40.00 will basically be a stock trap with a barely readable to non readable pan.

A $25.00 will have a non readable pan, modified chain and maybe some minor jaw issues.

I would advise you to check out your Newhouse traps closely. Yes, your average price probably is around $25.00 to $40.00. However not all Newhouse traps are average. There is always the chance that you might have a sleeper that could be worth a lot of money. Some of these are forged springs, one large jaw post which would signify that it was at one time a Newhouse clutch trap, government stamping on the base of the trap or on the pan, a square pan, Canadian Newhouse traps, cast eight chain, Rome on the trap, No. 44 Newhouse stamped on pan. There are other odditys that can appear, but you need to check out your traps or at least put photos on this site so others can advise you. Granted your odds of finding a rare trap is unlikely, but it does happen, and it would be a shame to use a trap to trap with that has the potential to be worth hundreds of dollars.
