I picked 1 up at auction recently and it has a very interesting chain on it. I do not do pictures but can text them off my phone. If anyone would like to post them. I would appreciate it. My # is 217 621 6614 thank you Mike Wise

Most have long link chains around 5 links and a small ring.

No it is a 30 some inch chain hand forged with 2 small rings attached to allowed the T handle to slip thru and choke on to some brush or a tree might not be correct but read once he made a choker type chain on special order. Tom Parr says it may and will show him trap in Sept.

The rings are attached to chain at 10 inch intervals so you can choke a small at 10 inch or a bigger limb at 20 inches which gives you a 7 -8 inch loop also trap has raised letters on base plates which show ONES with the jaw post thru the possible J is a bit of letter showing outside the nut. Interesting old trap have always liked the Watkins had a 7 a few years back no chain but nice trap no watkin stamp but had the boston mass. Stamp on one Spring. This one has 1 spring stamped J Watkins

Here is a photo of one of my #6 Watkins traps. I noticed on the base of yours there is some lettering showing. I've owned two that have lettering on the bottom. I believe one is similar to yours. Is the lettering the same?

It is easy for me to see the influences of Watkin's apprenticeship in his traps - so typically British!

What is the story with the JONES steel brand? Is it the Mass. equivalent of ROME in NY?

I am aware of the dogless patent he had Bruce, but I have not seen one in the flesh

That would be my guess coney. On the jones it is funny how two different traps and the J has been drilled out
