Wow..this post has gone a looonnnggg way on a method I thought was never proven to catch anything. I'm glad it works in Texas because it's a waste of time around my area.
Any of you guys who use this method use rubber frogs or crawfish wired to the pan too?
I heard you can drill a 1 1/2 inch hole in a solid log, drive 6-7 nails around the sides at an angle so they are in the log but the points are all in the hole. You then take pieces of tin foil and roll them in balls about the size of nickels. Put 4-5 shiny foil balls in the hole, which I forgot to mention, should be 5-6 inches deep.
Ol' Masked Bandit reaches in to grab the shiny pieces of foil and when he pulls his hand out the tapered nails prevent him from withdrawing his hand. He won't let go of the foil ball for some reason and will be waiting for you in the morning. Sharpen your knives because you'll need it. Along with the foil on the pan trick, I believe this combination could be deadly on the local raccoon population...
I had out 140 of the find solid log, drill hole, drive nails, foil balls sets out last year with great success. Only problem was I had $500 wrapped up in extension cords to reach from my truck's cigarette lighter to the sets to power my drill. The rechargeable ones don't cut it with a 1 1/2" auger bit.
Good luck trying this awesome set. Have fun and take care....
