I'm leaning towards it being an 8, but the trap is about the right size to be a 3

It's a #3, Oneida Community never made a #8 Newhouse or any other trap that was a #8.

Your trap is a #3. Newhouse did not make a #8. Like the one that the seller had on e-bay, and knew more than anyone else and claimed it was. His spiel worked though as some poor fool definitely opened his wallet and gave $115.39 for a $20 trap.

Like I said many times, if you are an inexperienced new collector ask someone that knows before you make the mistake of buying something and making a big mistake.

Bummer, I thought I had something pretty special lol. If it's only worth $20 I might as well just use it.

I had some email conversations with the guy about that trap. Told him it was a deep stamped #3 and that there was no such thing as an 8. He claimed some guys on a trapping forum said it was legit, I asked him to send me the link, he said he would. Still waiting....LOL

As big as #6 is, I might not be able to carry a #8.

I agree - 3 it is.

A rather common occurrence in newhouse # 3 traps from a certain period. I've seen any number 3s that looked it was an. 8

Man selling on ebay right now sent one to Australia. Anyway,he had something I was interested in and he went on and on about the NH #8 and guys being wrong about NH not making a #8 Most of them, you can see, like this one upside down, that it is a #3 I don't quite get where they come up with that or why. Guys like NHcattrapper have forgotten more about traps then most guys will ever know if they would only listen,it could benefit them.Info is greatly appreciated!

Another #8 on Ebay right now. I bid $1.25 but don't think I'll win because seller set a reserve price.
