I got a call for a woodchuck that was eating flowers from a Lady in the 'upscale'
part of the county. I usually do not give prices over the phone, but after much discussion,
relented and gave her my standard price for removing the pesky flower consumer.
We agreed on the time to meet at her house and I hung up.
As I arrived at her modest home, I noticed several bumper stickers on her car. PeTA, HSUS,
Greenpeace, Coexist, something about war being bad, but my favorite was an
Obama/Biden 2012. I thought, okay, no talking politics!
I got out of my truck and walked to the door, which opened as I approached.
I was greeted by a middle aged woman, who looked to be doing well for herself,
judging from her appearance.
She started out with pleasant conversation asking me questions about how long
I have been doing this, do I get much business, then she brought up the fee that
we had agreed to on the phone the previous day! She stated that she thought a
nominal fee, to cover gas and such, was fine, but the rest of the bill should go to the
town! When I inquired as to if the town had the problem, she looked at me as if I had
2 heads! "If the town took care of the problem in the begining, that creature would not
be in my yard!"
Oh crap! I explained that the town doesn't deal with wildlife to which she responded,
"They should! I pay enough in taxes!" If only she paid attention to all the other things
her taxes were being used for!
In short, I caught the woodchuck, she paid me but was going to talk to the town supervisor,
who was a friend of hers!
Sometimes, I think about charging these people more, one for being stupid, and two for thinking
everyone else should be footing the bill for them!
