Many years ago I got a cage trap from Cumberland's, I believe it was called just a Custom Cage Trap in the catalog. It is similiar in design to the Williams trap with a gravity door. The locking device was simply a piece of smooth rod that pointed from the bottom of the trap towards the back of the cage. The door when fired would just slightly hit the rod as it came down and the door would be kept from opening(unless rolled upside down) by the rod . Problem is that weld broke on the rod, not sure where the rod ended up, and theres no way for the door to lock without something to prevent the door from coming back up if pushed.

Any suggestions on how to make the door lock? I could weld on another piece of rod like the original but I am leary of the thing coming off again at an inopportune moment.

I have about 20 of them. I got the first one over 25 years ago. Still going strong. The rod has a small ( L ) on the end that is welded. Have not had a problem and like the design. However, they are not made any more.

Think I vaguely remember you telling that at the NTA Last tear. Guess I'll try adding another rod for now. Maybe bulk it up a bit more.

Believe the trap you're referring to was made by the late Wayne Freebersyser (sp?). Still have a couple of different sizes of them.

Wayne sold to Dorn Miller who sold to the Cunnihams (s). I sold traps made by all three until they went out of business a little over 2 years ago.

I have made these type door latch style but use a rod on each side. I've seen then when only 1 rod in center.
