Mike, no foot holds will be my tool, just asking for some input on some warm weather sets, besides the obvious blind set.

If they are there on a regular basis they have claimed the area as real estate that they own. You go in with post sets, and dirt holes and you will crush them fast!

I catch most of my coyotes in the summer. I catch a lot on flat sets using a stick or 2 about as big around as your wrist and about 2 1/2 ft long. Put bait and lure under the end where the trap is. Urine on the stick at the same end. place trap 6-8in straight in front of the baited end. Works great. I do use dirt hole, hay, cubby and urine post also. I make catches on all. The only blind sets I use are snares.

Bury me with my guitar, a bottle of Jack Daniel, some MB 550s, and lots of money just in case you can take it with you!

Faster, what do you do with the stick? Does it lie on the ground or do you stick one end in the ground?

How are you going to keep from catching the goats?

Mike, Why you say that? I hear you loud and clear.Lobo, I,was planning on setting on the other side of fence...If I cant I dont think my 550s will hold a goat,I will figure the logistics out.I started this post for (tricky)If you will, ideas. Lures that may work better in warm weather...etc.I have no problem catching them in the fall/winter, but they seem to be different critters when its warm,or hot.

Lay it on the ground. It will hold a goat, seen it twice

Southern, wouldn't it be easier to drop a youtube link than to try and explain coyote trapping? That's why. Just easier and more effective.

Sure, Dont mean to sound offensive, just that seems when people ask questions they seem to be labeled newbies for some reason.I dont have trouble with catching coyotes during trapping season, just havnt done spring/summer coyote work before. If they react the same as they do in winter(I dont think they do)I will have no problems killing them.

You have to be on the travel ways to the den sites or intercept them around their hunting routes in spring and summer. Methods dont change but just setting general travel routes like fall and winter trapping you won't connect on specific animals or groups of animals.

Find the general areas of the dens thru vocalization and that will help put you in the right direction.

Coyotes dont react differently but you must remember it hasnt been too long since trapping season ended. Some coyotes will avoid some standard sets due to the learned responses of the past trapping season. Mix up the sets and odors, blended patterns etc. you will pick them up if you are in their local spring range territory.

I gotta agree with Bob. But some sets are irresistible to any K9 even if they were caught and released before. A urine post is one of them. They instinctively have to mark over it. If snares are allowed, its even easier for you. Southern, I haven't forgotten all the people who patently guided me to be an effective K9 guy. We were all new at it at one time or another, and I just want to pass the info as effectively as I can. I learn new stuff all the time, sometimes from the "newbees" lol
