Hi everyone. I am new to the forum. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I just started doing nuisance trapping and now have a job with coons in a crawl space. I'm thinking conibears would be best so they don't become cage trap shy. I'm thinking marshmallows or hot dogs. Or something on the trigger would work but I am unsure.

Anyone have suggestions for a job like this? How much would you guys charge for trapping the animals alone ?

Make sure you can get the little ones before you destroy the mother. Might have a mess other wise.

Conis should not be the first option for animals easily caged. You'll find public relations is as much a part of this job as conflict resolution and misuse of conis will give you more conflict resolution than you can handle.

If you put something on the trigger for coons you will most likely have a fired trap with some arm hair in it! Then you will have a coon that is shy to anything you do!

Tstiller, if you intend to remain in nuisance wildlife work for more than a week, you need to take the sage advice from DaveK and Warrior. No body grippers are necessary, but if you use of them at ground level or in public view, you will soon make the front page of the newspaper, and it won't be a favorable article. Nuisance wildlife work is NOT fur trapping in the city. Think real hard about worst case scenarios before you set any trap...because that's what usually happens.

That's about the most honest advice I have read in a long time, and 100% true.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just getting into this and taking one job at a time. Just got my trapping license and learning ADC by my self part time. All advice helps!

Positive set the crawl space access with a cage. Remember to check for pups.

Perfect. Can you find the entry point(s)? If not gang set cages with bait/lure underneath. Mama and kits I'm assuming or more? Not sure where your located but kits are here in Ohio.

And yes if you like conis check out the Comstocks.

As far as charging, if you need more equipment like cage traps.....

Cage trap the coon/s then sex them to see where you are with respects to male or lactating female. That will tell you what you need to do next. Conis are the last method I would use for most any land based trapping. Too many potential problems.

As mentioned never bait a coni for coons with bait on the trigger. And in regards to using conis in conjunction with bait in a bucket set or some variation I wouldn't go smaller than 220. Coons don't particularly like being crowded and they will try and grab the bait in the back of the bucket/box/etc on smaller bodygrippers set in buckets/boxes/etc. I am not a big fan of bucket sets anyway. As convenient and effective as bodygrippers are your better off eliminating them from an ADC job until all other avenues have been exhausted. A coon with a paw in a bodygripper can be a very ugly sight.
