Best all round bait for most carnivores will be beaver. Something with skunk in it works good for cold weather as wll. Can't help you on coon bait though. I have not been able to get a coon to take bait to save my life. Skunks on the other hand willeat almoost anything that I put out for coons. sick

Hard to beat fish. It smells even in cold weather. I like beaver meat. Try out Minnesota trapline products. I bet their lures and baits would work great where your at. Gusto is excellent in cold weather and Hiawatha valley is a good bait.

GH2 by Fox Hollow lures, is a very good cold weather lure for k-9s, with a skunk base smell to it. it also holds up very well in the rain. bait wise, powder river paste bait or Hiawatha Valley.

for the coons, I have good luck with jack mackeral fish for bait, and Hawbakers Coon Lure.

X2 those are my go to lures and bait, don't trap for coons so can't say about them, I'm having success with Ogormans winter gland lure and one called wolfers scent If your going to have a problem with a lure, I have the kind to have with wolfers scant, so far it seems bobcats and fox seem to like it as well or better than coyotes do, since I trap for coyotes only its kind of a problem but a full trap is always better to see than a empty one!

I usually make my own coon baits.... I have made quite a few different batches of some different stuff. Most everything has something along the lines of a fish base(sardines, jack mackerel, smoked oysters, etc), then some kind of filler(ground up cat food works well), and a sweet scent(usually anise oil or cherry oil). I put a little glycerin and that's about it. You can also use fruit pectin to preserve your coon baits(I use a package of Certo which you can usually just buy at Wal-Mart). The Certo gives it an extra bit of sweet smell while preserving at the same time. I have never had it freeze up on me. But that is just what I have had luck with. In a nut shell Coons- Sweet and Fishy!

IMO it's anything made by Asa Lenon.

I have used a lot of Lenons muskrat lure and that has been the best rat lure I have used.

Asa...I was lucky enough to buy lure from him before the business was sold - lucky for me I bought a lot...but my inventory is shrinking - not good!

John Chagnon took over his lures and I don't see a difference. John has put many years in with Asa learning his methods. I have total faith in John that he will continue the quality of Lennon lures and uphold the Lennon name we have come to know.

Zimmer, I second this. I fully believe John will continue the quality of Lenon’s Lures.

Thank you guys for nice comments. Asa is a great teacher and I'm glad he can see the brand that his dad and he created heading for 100 Year Celebration. Bugs to work out a little here and there, but getting a little easier each year to make a consistent bottle of Lenon's.

I bet most of you don't remember Grawes Big Stinky. Well He still makes it and it's a great coon Lure/bait.

Asking what lures are better then others. Well one mans lure may work for you but it may not work for the other guy. Most trappers are looking for the silver bullet. Well let me tell you there Is no such thing. A trapper uses a lure It doesn't work for him. So he blames the lure. While In most cases It's not the lures fault It's the trappers.

Testing is the best way to tell if a lure or bait work in your area.
Not during the season. I test from August trough September. I still have k9s hitting sites from last season.
Just what works for me.
