It is a ton of work to get started. Permits, licenses, insurance, equipment, marketing, developing contracts, website....add it up and it will be about $50,000 to get started.

Glad Dave wasn't around when I got started. He would of killed my spirit before I even got going.

I started small with two traps and flyers at every spot available and a craigslist ad. Had zero trapping experience (fur or otherwise).

I learned on the fly and bought more equipment as I needed it.

Since I know both Nate and Dave personally, if you draw a line between the two, you would probably come out to nearly the exact answer.

Not planning on being that serious. Just a side thing where I could do local jobs

Yep. You can start at what ever level you are comfortable with.

Call your F&G Dept. and ask how to get a license. After you get the license, get insurance. That will set you back about $600.

If you're going to do the squirrels, skunks and raccoon side of the business start buying cage traps as you earn some money.

Start slow and work your way into it. There's no reason to get overwhelmed or into debt.

When I started, my cousin said "balls to the wall....balls to the wall."....so I worked as hard as possible. The struggle...getting started...is definitely worth it. Anything less....don't bother.

It's only a struggle if you want it to be.

Some struggles you can't prevent or anticipate. But, it is a heck of alot of FUN.

You gotta do some research. We can only answer so much. To many variables go into pricing. What I charged when I first started and what I charge now is night and day difference.

You will adjust pricing many times until you find the right price that will keep you afloat and customers from filing bankruptcy.

And some you can. But I do agree that struggling can be fun in retrospect, sometimes. I've found that the trying is usually more fun than the accomplishing. That might be why I'm always trying new things.

Reasons for differences: Demographics of your customer base, your skill, your professionalism, your strategy, your overhead, your size, number of trucks, marketing budget, and level of profitability desired. All these factors....and then some...determine price.
