I have created a monster. Any tips on dealing with a trap shy gopher?

I caught a plug of skin and hair and have since had several dirt packed sets in the same spot.

Tonight I made a set with an Out O Sight with peanut butter on the bottom of the pan. Set to a hair trigger. Peanut butter has not been used in any of the previous sets. This is the first time this gopher has smelled it.

My next set will be an OOS upside down and totally buried in hopes of it coming down the tunnel as normal triggering the trap in the process.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thank you, Baxter! That sounds like a very sound idea.

Much more rational than some of the thoughts going through my brain!

Never heard of gas cartridges. What are they?

Seen the little smoking things you light and bury in the tunnel that are suppose to gas them, but never heard of it being successful.

Hey Mike - remember that poison, including poisonous gas, is illegal in Arkansas except for rats and mice. I agree that you should pull your traps for a bit and start fresh. Good luck!

Thanks, Mike! I remembered! Appreciate you noticing, though!

I was still curious what he was talking about. Those "Giant Killer" smoke thingys and extremely rusty spear traps are my most popular customer give aways. Of course i decline. That's why I was curious what gas cartridges we were talking about.

Yeah, we've all had those jobs where there is that one last booger that's hard to catch. Sometimes it's best to walk away for a bit and come back with a new determined attitude. Personally, I think the gopher detects your emotional distress and frustration and is laughing his arse off at you. ;-)
