Was just at Walmart today, don't usually buy ammo there but was in looking at fishing stuff and the shelves had less then ten boxes of any kind of ammo. The guy running the dept said he puts whatever he gets in out at 8am and its all gone in less then two hours.
Is it like this all over the country?

I can't understand why . Should start getting better for finding ammo because all the gun bills didn't pass . I would watch black powder next I guess there looking at passing a new law outlawing that .

Months ago there were articles talking about very large gov.t contracts for ammo. homeland sec. fda even ss adnin. these were for billions of rounds over 10 year contracts. Maybe the ammo makers went with a sure thing instead of possible sales at stores. the guy at walmart said 22 ammo does not come in and that he heard cci stopped making it.

For the past 4 years I have been working part time evenings in a gun shop, after my day is done with my nuisance wildlife business. I can say that ammo and re-loading components are next to impossible to get nation wide. Suppliers and manufacturers are claiming that it could take possibly in excess of 1 year plus to catch up with the supply and demand once everything levels out. We have also been informed by numerous ammo manufacturers that we could see up to a 60% increase on most center fire and rim fire cartridges within the next few months. So if you see what you need, buy it before the $$$ increase! It is going to take some time, but it has to level out eventually!

I've been looking for cci 22s at wal mart since coon season started fortunately I'm a pretty fair shot so last season leftovers took me through but I'm still stuck with just a few all they ever has is the hollow points which I don't much care for

Oh yeah! I went to Basspro the other day and said that I wanted some 22 rounds. They had 6 (tiny) boxes and I said I'll take them all! Sorry, we can only sell you one. All the glass cabinets that hold the handguns were empty and about 99% of the ammo on the shelves.

This entire post makes me glad to be an American. I have never agreed with President Obama on nearly anything he has said or done, but give the man his due; Before that unfortunate, lunatic, incident in Connecticut, of all places, he has still sold more guns and ammo than probably all of the previous presidents put together. And I'm guessing he did all of this on the basis of his skin color , rather than any bills he introduced.
And of course after that ultra-insane slaughter, this is no longer a contest. You really have to wonder why God allows these things to happen. Well, God's ways are not our ways. If it wasn't for a strong Christian upbringing: There, but by the grace of God, go I!
As a Christian Conservative, I have to ask myself, what would I have done under similar circumstances? The truth is: We don't know. We all picture ourselves as the hero who is armed and ready, but the truth is, we are all darn glad that there are people like the men of the Boston Police Force who got a standing ovation by the majority of the citizens of Boston. ( Who by the way, are as Liberal as you can get )

P.S. Yeah, I know, with several hundred empty casings in the street, these must be the worst shooting cops in the country! (Probably explains why ammo is so scarce )

Local guy here paid $120 for 500 rounds of .22 the other day.
And they called me nuts for stocking up. I got enough of most rounds that I use and reloading supplies to last a lifetime and then some. When it gets available it will be pricey and it will be taxed hard. I look for paper work and background checks for ammo and black powder primers ect in the near future.

CCI is the largest maker of rimfire in the world they are going 24 7 along with most other companys tying to stay ahead. The reason of the shortage is guys are scared and rightfully so of uncle sam saving us from the horrible things and banning and or taxing the devil out of them they want to get them why they can. I wasnt around but I am guessing Prohibition was similar. There have been more guns and rounds sold since NumNuts got in to our house in DC than ever before in history.

Mike, if I remember correctly, when I was 16 and belonged to rifle club in our high school, we could buy 500 rounds of target .22 long rifles for $4.95. And even at less than apenny apiece, we wouldn't waste any of them.

Paul,Like everyone here I watched the news videos of the bomb blasts and saw that most of the runners and civilians were running from the blast area as most would do. But what really struck me was the amount of "everyday folks" that their first responce was to run TOWARDS that sound of fury. I,like you, would hope I would have been one of those running to help the injured. I hope I never have to find that out.

Paul, I'm 52 but as a teenager I was buying a box of 50 for around .99 or less and maybe $1.25 for hollow points. The .22 mags ran a bit more but I can't remember how much.

You can call me paranoid if you like. I'm use to it. But I still believe that the ammo shortage is completely by design.

Why is our government buying up so much of just the most popular ammo? Why does the Department of Homeland Security NEED 1.6 BILLION rounds of ammo? What do they need with 2700 armored vehicles? Who are they gearing up to go to war with? Why did the IRS buy so many Remington 870's?

They realize that they can't get our guns. But what good is our guns if we can't get ammo?

Think about it.

The simple answer is...when people stop buying ammo they wouldnt normally buy. Its not like the manufactures stopped making ammo. The retailers in my area still get in truck loads of ammo., but it sells in 3 days instead of a month.
