I promise I don't get a commission from our friend Tim Julien but I just shared this with a local friend and thought it might help someone make some money, not get hurt and or save time. If you don't agree with evicting raccoons because it's unethical or something I would appreciate you starting a new thread.
If the raccoon entry is in a dormer with a steep roof that only an idiot might try to walk on with a pair of cougar paws. You have decided for what ever reason to evict rather than trap and remove litter. You don't want to tie off or use a chicken ladder every trip so...I duct tape a small finger like rag to the end of a chimney rod, frog gig, 1/2 inch pvc. I climb the ladder and without getting off the ladder I dip the rag finger in vanish and extend it to the entry point and smear it around until I feel like momma will get some on her coming and going. In two days if they customer is not hearing anything I go back and this time I take the same tools and stuff an old towel in the hole. maybe put a little dab of vanish on it.
If they are hearing something I will do something to magnify the danger i.e. walk into the attic and or use an agressive raccoon or larger predator call on my caller. If real difficult I mix a little vanish with water and suck it into a large gauge needle poke it thru the drywall where the pups reside and squirt it. Usually none of this is necessary.
The third visit the plug is in place and the customer is not hearing anything I take whatever safety precautions necessary to reach the entry and repair it charging accordingly. If it is above my ability or some other constraint we contract it.

Laundry Soap, Moth Balls, Raccoon Pee, LOL you guys are killing me. Vanish is for sure not magic, just plain science. Male raccoons eat young raccoons and the female raccoons understand Boar Raccoons are a danger to there young. Vanish imitates a Boar Raccoon. The method works in causing a female to move her young to safety. Lots of ways to make a female raccoon feel unsafe and move her young. Sometimes you have to ask her nicely to relocate.

I use 0'gormans "rory". A lot cheaper than vanish, very affective too.

This product is one in the same, Proline is just marketing it to two different consumer segments. Think about it, any product that can make a female raccoon abandon a den site with her young must be just as effective at removing stuborn stains from clothing. LOL!!!!!

Sorry about that guys I was wondering about the moth balls and cleaner comments but now it makes perfect sense. I've never used o'gormans but I'm sure it is good whatever it is as he makes good products. One other thing about vanish is I know it is not labled for it but it will cause a grey squirrel to move her young. Not as useful but if you ever hve a case of needing to try it you might like it!

Knowing both trapperpaw and Proline, I am absolutely startled that no commission was involved. Okay, no, I guess I'm not.

Rob's is good also. I haven't used it for years but not because it wasn't good I see Tim more. I started this thread about vanish and coon families and two other good products have been brought into the conversation. A good thread with no negatives. All three are good products but the main point I was trying to make how to use any of these products without getting off the ladder.

Why couldn't you throw some on a tennis ball with a string attached in the attic?

Most of my coon/litter jobs I have no attic. They are small log cabins. The coon are in the soffit, wood chimney chase or some where in the roof. So I about have to use this method. Or rip into tongue and groove knotty pine to get to the litter. On my jobs with attics it works about 80% of the time momma coon just moves them to the other side of the house. So it's quicker just to trap mom and grab the kids in attics. But the cabins I work on the vanish is the ticket

I have herd of this method but I have found that it is more effective at the entry point with applying it so she gets some on her self coming and going. The raccoon gland leaves the impression that the other coon is there she just hasn't seen him. Her nose tells her this is no longer a safe place for the litter and she moves them. If I can get to the litter without remodeling or crawling a long distance in insulation I will trap and get the litter or vice versa. Vanish or the other products are just tools that you and your client have to decide when it is the best option.
If the customer wants to pay me for my time I would never use it. Some jobs could run into the thousands without it though.
