if the bottom is sand or silty is material washing up under the trap pan and preventing it from firing a problem? if so how do you prevent it?

I Take a hand full of dead grass and wad it up into a circle and place it under my trap.

It works to a degree.

i don't bed mine really deep, I am in tidal so there is a constant flow of garbage in the marsh here. but I just pick them up and 'clear them' every once in a while when you see the trash filling in around the trap. haven't had that problem(that I know of!) so far this year.

IMO grass works so so foam outof couch cushions or bed mats works great . don't bed to deep either it can pack around the trap so tight it will fire real slow . long springs are great because you bead the springs in the sand and leave the pan and loose jaw sticking out . some times i will bed on sod that i get from the bank turn upside down in front of my pocket . Sandy gravly substrate is deffinatly a challenge

Double longs have more room I feel and it takes longer to fill them in.

Anyone ever used poly-fill?

What is wrong with the water? Doesn't it get all hard?

soft foam is the only thing i have found to keep the drift sand at bay consistantly and allow me to place the trap where I want it and bed it the way I want

A hand full of Polyfill from an old pillow etc., or you can buy a bag cheap at Wally World.
