WD-40 works and is easier to apply where needed without ruining the whole board.

Bigbob,

No offense meant just thinking wd-40 and snake skin, respiration, doesn't this cause harm
when you are trying to release the snake, or are you just removing the snake to keep the trap
open but killing the snake?

Justin

The ones I've used it on were lively enough when released, some a few hours later. It's a silicone based product, and some folks actually use it to rub on arthritic joints.

Sounds reasonable, I can for sure see how the applicator nozzle would be better than veggie oil which is very messy.

Thanks for sharing,

Justin

I use cooking spray, that way you can put it exactly where you need it like wd-40, but it is still basically vegetable oil.

Andy, I've heard of the cooking spray, how many releases do you get per can?

Might sound silly, just wondering, frankly for the mess if prefer anything in a can that works and is ok for
The snake.

I am just a small-timer, but I did about 4 copperheads, a couple water snakes and two blacksnakes last year and my can is still pretty full. I've used it as improvized hand cleaner a couple times as well . Works good if you get some glue on your hands.I don't know if it does any good, but I feel compelled to give bat tubes a little shot of it, since it is laying on the shelf of the van. At this rate I think I might get a couple years out of a can if I don't drop it and break the nozzle off of it. I don't buy pam, just the generic stuff. Gotta watch costs anywhere you can.

Thanks Andy, likewise I don't do many at this point but want to get away from bottles of oil.

Agree about the generic!

Might check the nozzle to see if it will take a straw shooter to help your aim.

I just use veg. oil but those others I am going to try. Whatever you use I would add patience because if you try to help to soon or much and unexpected result will occur causing you to haveto euthanize him.
