I mentioned this in another topic but I think it got missed. For us new operators, what would be a got to have list of tools that are needed to get started without having to order or wait on. I am looking for just a basic list of traps and tools. Not necessarily power type tools, I know I need drills, saws and such for exclulsions.

So what would you put on the list?

If you want to save yourself from experamenting with the right drill, or the right saw, etc. get more specific as to what type or brand. Also what size. A haveajunk coon trap is a trap made for coons, it just doesn't last long. You may as well get cheep Chinese knock offs at 25% the price.
Organizing the truck is most important to me. There is nothing worse than wasting time looking for tools and material. Its un professional, and sloppy.

An excellent headlamp and flashlight. Sometimes you will need hands free, thus the headlamp, other times you need the
extra power from a flashlight. Really lighting is its own category, some folks use work lights in attics and crawlspaces, others
use portable LED lights, and other rigs.

I guess I'd say lighting is an important one including at least the following;

- headlamp
- flashlight
- string lights or work lights for attic

And you will need backups for the first two at least. You will drop or lose or break them, don't be without another to go to.

Here I go again. If you guys wonder why I always agree with Justin and Dave, it's pretty simple. They say the right thing at the right time. ( Dave just told me to shut up on LT's site )

Any of our employees can come to me with any kind of a lighting problem and know it will be solved instantly. Why, because the lighting industry must be one of the most profitable.

I just bought several of the lightest, most powerful, headlamps I've ever owned for $3.33 apiece. ( Of course, the techs haven't got them yet, but the grandkids went wild. )

I would get some head protection for when you go in attic. Those nails can put you down
in a sec.

Alright Paul, cough it up. What brand and where'd you get them? What size batteries? At 3 bucks apiece it doesn't sound like they're sturdy top of the line last for years items, but that price is the right price for my cleanup crew since they always seem to be leaving equipment in attics or tossing it out with the tyvek suits and gloves. The only thing I don't skimp on is their respirators and I get those back at the end of the day to clean and store.

Okay Kevin, it's two headlights and a small flashlight in a three-pack for $15 with a $5 rebate from Menards. ( Which you probably don't have ) Lucky for you, I still have two in packages, so here's the scoop. www.promierproducts.com.

3 lousy triple AAA batteries give this ultra lightweight headlamp so many lumens that you couldn't look into the light without getting temporarily blinded. ( The grandkids loved them. Apparently blinding your grandparents is the latest craze )

I thought I was the only one who had those guys. We didn't pay for it so who cares if we junk it or leave it behind.

Yeah, and then when you give it back to them all dirty and broken, they wonder why YOU didn't clean and fix it.

I really like my ramset. So much faster than drilling into concrete.
Good lights to.

Just a couple of tools that I have found very useful.
Bosch PS10-2A 12-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Driver Kit http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-PS10-2A-12-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Driver/dp/B000PI48AK

Malco TSHD Turboshear Heavy-Duty
http://www.amazon.com/Malco-TSHD-Turboshear-Heavy-Duty/dp/B0002894R0

I have an extra-
Malco TSDC Drill Clamp Assembly for All Turbo Shear that I will ship free of charge to the first ADC Forum member that has a reference to being an ADC operator in their profile. Reply by PM only!!! If you don't have the basic tool, it is useless.

A ramset is a powder actuated tool. Basically you use .22 blanks to drive nails with washers attached into concrete , block, mortar and things. A lot faster than drilling into concrete. I exclude a lot of slabs and just have to fasten material to concrete a lot and this tool saves mucho time.

Baxter, thanks buddy, we just had an office put in our basement and the builder used a ramset. I enjoyed watching him and my grandson wouldn't quit looking until he had a casing for every driven nail. Had no idea that was a ramset.

P.S. I'm sure we will see the ramset as the murder weapon on every TV program for the next couple of months.

A thought on employees losing/breaking/stealing equipment: give 'em a $50 allowance per year for replacement. Inventory every tool he uses at the beginning of the year. Whatever needs to be replaced over the $50 deductible comes out of his paycheck, while allowing for normal tool wear & tear.
If he goes a year without going over the fifty bucks, give him double the difference as a good steward bonus (example: $50 - $10 in tool replacement = $40; double that and he gets an $80 bonus).
What d'ya think?

Dave that is a nice idea.

After having to revisit job sites or sending the guys back to pick up left tools I made the inventory list and make them check it weekly. The bonus is a great idea to encourage better care of tools.

I really like the newest member of the team because he only wants to use his own tools. I can't argue with that.

Nate, a couple weeks ago several of us got a PM from the boss after having our signatures deleted. He stated his new rule to those who lost their signatures but evidently has not made it site wide yet.

Loc: Georgia Paul, why the change? I'm not looking to be disagreeable but my signature has been the same for two years now. I also would like to keep it where others on the board that I may answer a question or give advice to knows it is coming from a NWCO side and not fur trapping so they can better take it for what it's worth.

I will change mine to fit the guidelines you have shared on the forum but I have not received this private message. If I did receive this message I would of changed my signature and I would say that maybe we have not received this message because we are not in violation of what Paul feels is extreme.

I don't think Mike and I needed to be busted out like we are law breakers on the forum. If Paul is sending private messages to people then I would guess he is on top of what is going on and other members can let him (and his moderators) run his forum his way. He has never been afraid to change/add rules and make sure EVERYONE is aware of those changes and that hasn't been done as of yet.

David I appreciate you sharing what you got from Paul. Who knows maybe Paul thought that the people he messaged would take it upon themselves to pass the word.
