I use a 1 1/4 in long by 3/4 in. pvc pipe fastened on to the bottom of the pan with a zip tie. The rounded edge seems to help. I realy like them.

It's posts like this that put me in my place. I have no idea what either of these two gentlemen is talking about. ( And I just saw Jim and his son a few days ago ) Am I the only one that is lost in this conversation?

For Paul, A little woodie is a small v shapped piece of wood that is fastened under the pan on the oos mole traps. Then you do not have to made a hump of dirt in the bottom of the mole run for the pan to set on. I use a piece of pvc and like it better than a woodie. More of a round shape. The boy in MN that sells the stanless steel dogs and pans for the oos's has a step down in his pans that serves the same purpose.

Well Jim, that explains it. Since I don't know what a mole is.

Phil, at least we know how to spell moron.

The little woody helps but so will Jims idea. I have used them like every other idea someone comes up with. I have eventually lost them all and am now back to making a mud ball from the moles work and putting it under the trip pan. It works just as well, is free and you don't have to worry about leaving it somewhere it doesn't belong like you do your little woody.

This is off the subject, but never heard of the mud ball method. Reginald on his video was saying
the sides should not slope. Are you making a ball or just wetting the soil for the wall/bridge for the pan to set on. Something new every day!

Bill:
Do you put the little woodie on the bottom of the run and put sand around it or build a wall/bridge
and put the little woodie on top of it?

Ok reference the mudball. If I am going to dig the tunnel up and build a dam of dirt under the trip pan I can see the woodie or the pvc being a plus. When I was referring to the mudball most of the time with the oos or the spear trap I depress the tunnel to where there is an actual depression showing exactly where the tunnel is. Then I take a ball of dirt and place it in the tunnel depression and put the trip pan right on top in contact with the dirt ball. On the spear trap I dip the tines in vaseline and pull and release it several times lubricating the dirt sheath the tine has to go thru and make sure it doesn't hit a rock, root or buried acorn. The oos I either take a knife or use the oos shovel WCS sells to make sure nothing prevents closing on the body of the mole.

I ALSO USE THE OOS SHOVEL EVEN IF I DIG THE TUNNEL UP. WHICH I USUALLY DO. BEST MONEY I SPENT.

I ended up having the JC Conner hoe modified w/ a rake on the other end. Serves me well in sand and sod. And now tht I have the rake, I'm no longer cutting the little wire invisible dog fences!

Jason;
The first question I ask,where are all your underground utility's. Also do you have little kids or pets. Most utility's are deeper than I set mole trap except dog fences. I made my own shovel, it is square on the end but sharp.
