Will peat moss cause refusals on mole traps, when used to keep traps operating in winter conditions? Anyone have any experience on this, or educated guesses? I know first hand it works on predators, but it works best with a thin layer of native soil on top. I know what would happened if I shoved my nose into peat moss, I would back up and find a way that didn't make me sneeze.

I started using peat moss a few years ago for cold weather moles. It works so good I now use it on almost every mole set, year-round. It allows the traps to work in rainy conditions, and I truly believe it is an attractant to the moles. Moles are constantly in mulch beds and flower beds, many which have peat moss in them. I think the smell draws them in. I have one bucket for my traps/flags and another with peat moss.

That makes me feel better. I used some the other day, I didn't see any other way of keeping the traps working. I was hoping it wasn't a mole repellent like juicy fruit gum.

Peat works just fine on moles. I like it better than dirt.

What exactly are you doing with it? Using it to fill in the hole instead of the dirt?

For trapping golf courses this is just about the best idea iv'e seen. With mild winters with lots of rain then irrigation all summer I have to deal with wet, sloppy runs all the time on the fairways, I will try this soon as mounds are showing up in fairways. Just shows you at 79 I am not too old to learn new tricks. Thanks!
