I was told never set a mole trap with in 12 to 20 inches of a mole mound.
What do you think?

BS !
I've caught them right below the mounds !

Wayne Gretsky once said, I skate to where the puck is going to, not where it has been !

I've had good results setting in the mound and near the mound. The mound is an indication that it is connected to a deep tunnel that he has spent a lot of calories on and he hates digging he just doesn't have any other job offers . If you hve fresh sign around the mound he'll be back and it's a good place to end his work.

Sleep'n with an animal..I can help.
Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water

Actually, I have found in at least fifty per cent of the time the main tunnel is just below the mound. This saves me carving up another hole in the grass if you find the tunnel this way. Rarely will I find the main tunnel more then twelve inches away from the mound, they will not waste their energy pushing dirt a long ways.

I agree with LT on the BS thing. I set near the mounds all the time. You're right about them leading down to the tunnel. I always probe around the mound, especially when I can't find any other runs.
