History is a great place to start. Modern tools we have today. Bring some tanned fur! Tell them the importance of wildlife control and fur trapping. Human and wildlife conflict is also a good subject. It's fun to go to schools.

Well speaking to kids so keep it simple but fun . Don't put them to sleep . I would also explane that trapping helps all the little song birds animals ect . My trappers association MTA has a great trappers edd program you could look at what they cover . You could have notes on what your looking to talk about . Taking tanned animal pelts is always a big hit . It's no big deal your talking about trapping . Make your brother proud sounds like your his hero

kshunter, just the fact that everything is oral and nothing is written should be a great relief. I could probably do a grade school every week. Even the teachers aren't smart enough to ask questions that you can't field. Even my Master's Degree daughter cannot get me tongue tied in front of her classroom. This is my life, my love, and my occupation. You could humble a PETA person in a second; just remember that! ( Also, don't forget, you're talking to children )

Kids are an easy audience. Just tell them what you know and you'll do fine.

See if your state trapping assoc has any demo stuff, like fur to show, and make sure to take along a few traps, a"STINKY" lures might be fun.

Stop by the nearest extension office and pick up some free handouts. They usually have literature on bats, bugs, snakes and fur trapping which should entertain any 12 year old. Your taxes pay for it so help yourself - thay may even have educational material aimed at that age group. Have fun!

I speak to a third grade class every February, they seem to like the pelts more than anything. Get ready for some pretty entertaining questions. Can beavers fly? Etc...If you take a skunk pelt they will all scream "ewwwww" and plug their noses, every year. It's well worth it, the kids are young enough they are still open minded and really seem to enjoy it. Goodluck.
