Ive done alot of ADC work on rats before(what i call barn rats), never had problems, always got'er done.
I have a family that has "a" rat, its been sighted numerous times. Always in different locations, and never in typical rat places. Most sighting takes place outside and in the open, even though there are several barns/buildings for it to be in. These folks are pitching table/food scraps out into a bean field, but its never been seen there or anywhere close...
Most cases here i figure its a mouse or a possum. BUT...
I got to see it, while sitting on these folks porch one night. It was the size of a small possum, big ears, bald tail. I told them id take care of it right then and there, grabbed a big stick and took off after it. Well once it saw me coming, it hit high gear, and left me standing in the dust. Ive ran down countless possums, and even coons and groundhogs, but this sucker was fast, and no possum.

If i had to guess, id say 2-4lbs, soild brown, big ears and bald tail. Mostly been seen at sundown.
I went through a basic regiment of snap-rat traps in the locations where sighted, but im kinda unsure what to do. I have small animal live traps, but these folks also have a skunk that lives under a barn. They claim she is gone, but i dont wanna risk a foot-hold or larger live traps, because even though they love her company, they despise her smell...

Any thoughts?

no nutes here as far as i know, definately not a muskrat...
i guess maybe i just got to old to catch a possum on foot(never thought id say that)
but man it was fast, never seen a possum bob and weave like that.
Only thing i caught in the rat traps was a starling(something im removing anyhow)

I guess im just more perplexed at the lack of pattern and sign. Has been a strange year with critters round here. Maybe the possums evolved, got faster and less predictibale...thats my story, and when i catch that speedy possum i'll let yall know.
