I am looking for anyone with some advice on keeping sparrows out of overhang areas in Lowes stores. The areas I am bidding are the lawn and garden areas and where the contractors load up their supplies. Right now I am thinking some bird slide/slope products on the I beams where the birds are nesting on or behind along with some bird gel in other areas. The other thought is to net off the entire area. The size of the two areas are 110' x 80' and 80' x 60'. Any tips or other ideas or problems someone else has run into I would like to hear to help my learning curve. This is a test store and if everything goes well it could lead to more stores. Thank you in advance for anyone that could help.

Stealth netting is the best long term solution for a persistant pest bird problem. With the $$$ they will spend over the next 20 years on other methods it will pay off for them.

Most other methods can be a deterrent at best on sparrows which are the primary birds in box stores. With sparrows and starlings spikes dont work well, bird gel is a waste of money. Slide and slope products work some times on larger birds and can help with the right circumstance.

Thanks I saw your other post on the stealth netting and I do like that idea. One of these stores recently spent 20,000 on some netting and tore it down in less then 6 months so they may not like that idea. I don't know the quality or how well it was put up.

You need to interview the responsible party to see what they want as an end result. Then you will know what options you may or may not have. The install needs to address the problem and to meet any access to lighting etc. as well. Some of these folks dont know what they want.If they had a net and removed it you need to ask why.

There isnt really any other total exclusion methods known at this time that I am aware of.

I see they have redone it since last time I was there . At first they just ran it to the beams . Now they have ran it around the beams as well , I remember looking up going dint do much good hanging that because there just nest on the beam now , I would say the way it's done now is very well done . This net will last atleast 20 years . If you go to cutlers game bird supply you'll find all the stuff needed to make this net . This net was hog ringed atleast every 1/2 to the nylon cord . .

The perimeter grid is usually aircraft cable not nylon cord. Cord would stretch too much. Unless the installers know something about net work that I dont.

It was that kind that has a bunch strands rolled into one . If you cut it in half and look at the end it kinda looks like a paint brush , not sure what it's called . Its kinda like the stuff they use to tie down lumber there at home depot that orange stuff . Except it was black

Could you give a time estimate it would take you to install our even the size of the roof you installed on your pictures and the size? I know it would take me a lot longer then you but don't want to under estimate my time to short.

Thanks

Got to thinking that Memphis net company could build you a net needed for that video I posted . All you would have to do is take the measurement and place your order . That would save some time and there would be no waist left over . The net could also be coated for longer life

The pavilion we just installed the stealth net was 16' x 26'.It took us about 3 hours for 2 men to install the initial cable grid with intermediate cable attachments also. The next day it took us about 5 hours to ring attach and trim the net.
