This season I will be trapping for coon in areas that have a lot of barn cats running around so I am looking for a bait or lure that I can use that won’t attract cats. I usually use fish based bait for raccoon which will lure barn cats in like crazy. I know that coons like sweet stuff which cats done usually go for so can anyone recommended a good coon bait that cats will not be interested in?

~~Tom

What is the advantage to buying a lure like coon candy as opposed to using stuff from the pantry?

secret ingredients. Don't know, but I DO use stuff from the pantry, with a little dob of lure just for good luck and it increased my catches.

is there anything short of a secret ingredient you can add to stuff from the pantry that will maybe carry the scent a little further?

Thanks for the replies so far. I will have to try some “Coon Candy” or experiment with marshmallow and other sweet stuff.

I came accross a old timmer from kentucky who manufactured some stuff called "Bandit Butter", well he had passed away 2 years ago and I traveled back down there to an estate auction his family had, well to make a long story short I purchased the "blue prints" to this stuff and have used it for 2 seasons now and it is unbeleiveable! no cats at all and very few if any grinners, and it puts a pounding on coons!

I didnt climb, claw, and fight my way to the top of the food chain to eat salad!!

I had the same issue when i was trying to live trap some coons not to long ago i wetn to my pantry and mixed up some peanut butter and hersheys strawberry syrup and a handful of my horses sweet feed it worked on the first night im sure the peanut butter and strawberry syrup would work well alone.
