Relocating a very small number of rats for a customer at her request. Any trouble live catching in a colony trap oher than them fighting in the trap. Thanks.

In my experience they will fight "till the end" of one or both of them. catching them individually prolly a better solution if relocation is TRULY important.

I told her I would try. I relocated one little one in colony first night. Very surprised none on second check. Was concerned the colony might not be reliable holding them for long periods.

I would suggest getting some wire trigger double door cage traps like comstocks to catch the rats if you can find a place that will keep them safe from drowning. The good thing about these vs the colonies is that you can arrange the triggers so any small turtles can walk through unlike the colonies.

The colony trap needs to be submerdged or they will get out . If they need relocated just live trap them in a squirrel trap . I would tell the lady there just like beaver and will smell there way back . Not sure if I would take the chance on spreading something to the other muskrats by relocating them . Wire triggered trap should work . You could Put the trap in 5" of water then put some weeds in there and then place some rat crap on that ,cut up a few apples . I would cover the trap with weeds to make them feel safe from hawks . Give it that tunnel look . Beaver castor could be a call lure or rat gland . The raccoons are hunting frogs right now so I would hold of on the bait and lure at first , might not even need it , rats love cover
