Nope, I believe he is talking 8-32 nuts they are very small and often used as deer stops. I too use them for end stops on my fox/coon snares. Never had one slip yet.

Yep they had those. If I remember correctly they had

6-32
8-32
10-32

Or something like that. These ones were coated, and they were like .05 ea.

I might need to find a better place to buy them.

I think I pay around 1.5 cents each for mine. They are zinc coated I think. I use the 8-32 for mine. Buy them in bulk and save alot. I get mine by the 100 from Menards.

OK What do you use for the Loop if you use these for the stops? I'm talking in place of a double ferrul.

I have caught coyotes in snares with 8-32 for end stops in fences but I don't build my coyote snares with them. Those were coon/fox snares. I'd bet they would hold on 3/32 7x7 cable though. I use 1/16 for my coyote snares now. I don't snare enough coyotes though to say for a fact from experiance they will never slip on them but like I said they have never slipped on my coon/fox snares and I use hundreds of them every year.

You can't use them 8-32's in place of a double ferral the cable won't fit through them twice. If you are going to loop the cable you need 1/4" nuts. Or you can use a double ferral and loop the cable through it and put the 8-32 nut on the end to keep it from going back trough. That is called an adjustable loop end. I'll see if I have a picture of one...

Adjustable loop end using a 8-32 nut...

If you are making cable stakes and not snare ends I'd use 1/4" nuts and just double the loop through them and pound them with a hammer or use double ferrals and pound or swage them on. Either way they will hold.

What in the lords world are you guys talking about ! double ferrules that come apart just snaring coyotes , Beavers and wolves?
How often could you actually say that an animal has broke apart a double ferrule cable and I,m talking properly crimped with a proper tool now ,And lets not forget properly tied to whatever. Something is real wrong if you worry about this as a problem!
Sure if you start hammering and use other tools than a swager to crimp them , stuff happens , But really now?

Most people myself included don't want to spend the money on good swager and the cheap ones are no better than a hammer... so we use a hammer. I don't think anyone said they had a ferral slip on a snare but a double ferral on a cable stake is what the main subject of this post is. If you try and pull them out of the ground to reuse them that is when they will slip if they are ever going to IMO. In that situation I'd rather have a steel nut holding the loop rather than an aluminum ferrel.

a 6-32 nut will fit on 3/32 cable as a stop a 1/4" nut to double it . 832 will fit on 1/8 "cable as a stop.

Hey ADC are those bulk nuts that you buy from menards annealed, 1.5cents a piece sure beats $4 per hundred from the snare shop. Just to stay with the topic, I've used thousands of those annealed steel nuts and never had a failure.

NO they are not annealed and they are 8-32 not 1/4" like SS sells. I use them for end stops and deer stops on my coon/fox snares.
