This Raccoon was actually successful and pulling the lock bar back about half way, then it lost its grip. It pulled the bar back several times as I could hear it snapping back, which drew my attention to what the Raccoon was doing.

Great shot Jason, scary though, explains a lot. Can't trust a coon. Choice for opening size is personal preference mostly I suspect, subjective, no way to know with absolute certainty if one is really better than the other with regularity or they are the same, 9x11, or 10x12. Not hearing that refusal is an issue in the 9x11, just less space in a truck and less room to place. Short traps are fine for a whole lot of things, but agreed that large coon need 30 to 36 in a double door, though you might be able to go down some with a single door, but not a lot, too much reaching and coon are larger.

Pesky-I don,t think the doors are over powered.

I have never had anybody call and tell me of problems holding animals in those traps. One thing, by having springs on both the top and bottom, the coon would have to lift and pull at the same time. The one you bought before we started powder- coating.

This is how we learn.

Here's a video of the problem . Can't see how bad the clips are rusting on it . It doesnt show up it just blends in . Sharp clips with rust and animal urine on top that is not going to work . And they just don't look that good .

I would think that animal urine in the cage would be pretty good indicator that the cage must be working? I will renew my offer from earlier (but I will reword it) I will pay you good money for them traps.

Pesky, I really hope you send the traps you are having problems with back to Jim. He has offered to reimburse you in full. These traps have been on the market for a very short time and letting Jim see the problems first hand will only result in better traps for all of us.

If you try to fix them yourself, you're actually doing all of us a disservice.

I guess one shouldn't talk about comstock traps . It's like it's been outlawed .

No, but complaining for days and refusing to do anything to solve your problem should be.

Kirk,

After dozens of coon captures no loses yet. Satisfied with performance and heavy duty construction. I thought the Raccoon pic was interesting to show how determined it was to escape, but fortunately unable to fully retract the lock bar.
