CSX railroad one of the nations largest freight haulers will no longer be using private wildlife controllers.
I was informed by a CSX offical that Wildlife Services will be doing all of CSX beaver control nation wide starting as of now. It seems WS offered their services for free (interesting)so all regions were told not to hire private contractors anymore. I find it interesting that thousands of miles of railroad track work will be off limits to our industry and by a federaly tax subsidised agency. WS also told the CSX personal that they can use an method they want reguardless of state regs.
This is not from a TV news story, internet rant, or some left wing news paper, this was from CSX to me personaly.
I have to wonder where will they strike next???
Think about this.

Don, was this a verbal exchange or do you have something in writing from CSX?

Don, somewhere along the line this sounds like it could really backfire.

Don, do you know who actually owns the land the railroad uses?

It seems to me it might be a good idea to get in touch with Kerry or Brown and see if there is anything they could do about this.

So now we all get to apply to W.S. if we want to trap beaver? Or we can all tell them to pee up a rope when the tracks get washed out because they cant keep up. Strangely enough, a bunch of trappers are gonna jump at the chance to do it for a hand shake. Oh well.....

This was verbal and the person will not be ID'd for their job protection from me. The land for R.R.s in general could be owned, leasted but in most cases the Right of Way (ROW) is owned by others but there is a right of acces in the deed of the land. The RR has the legal right to give access to anyone the RR wants.

As for this back firing I don't see how?? Unless WS screws up.

What percentage of your business will this effect for you Don? We really need to get the right people into office that can limit this abuse. Wonder if the "free" really means that the lobbyists that work for the railroads in DC will have their backs when budget cuts come down the line?

The accident site is about 8 miles north of the Village of Holly, MI. Also ... out due to a beaver dam bursting, flooding the area around the track.

WS isn't doing this beaver work nation wide or in a single state for free. The cost will be covered by you and I - the taxpayers. But since it is a verbal agreement only I doubt the "free" portion will be in written contract. And if it is, then it will only last for a year at best imo. Then WS will jack up their fees substantially.

If I were in your shoes I would be screaming like crazy about this to all of my elected officials at both the State and Federal level. I'd be asking them why I, as a private small businessman, am being prohibited from bidding on a contract by a federal agency that is claiming to be doing the work for "free". I would ask, "Why am I paying to have my tax dollars used to put me out of business?" You know, give them the entire business speech.

While your at it, give them the business on Social Security and how the rate of return on billions and much squandering of that money is going, maybe would could get that changed and then worry about the peanuts in the bucket WS is spending on public safety.

Here is the regulation from the FRA (Federal Railroad Administration)I work with this reg all the time. It also only effects Class A rail. Low speed and local tracks are not effected by this reg.
I copied this from my FRA reg. book.

In The Weeds, solve one small problem at a time based on priority. SS isn't about to be solved any time soon. Too darn many politicians have their hands in the cookie jar. Why is it common type sensible people can resolve problems way quicker, with better results, than politicians can?

K9man, you think this issue with WS has more priority than does social security and other issues facing far,far more americans????? Really???? I think if you took a poll you would find an overwhleming amount of americans to disagree with YOUR prioirties with all due respect.

I think that both of you are in agreement although it may be for different reasons. We are being faced, in this country, with something that we've never seen before. We have a much larger group of people that prefer to live off of what the wage earners have done. Can you imagine the chaos if those of us that support entirely healthy people, decided that we no longer take pride in our work and decided that we wanted to be supported too.

And that there were actually people elected to be state and national representatives that would vote for our cause. I'm sure that people have been fighting this kind of injustice for many decades and just because it might seem unpopular, don't give up the fight!
