on certain spots on wood siding? i have a few places where different animals come to a house and only chew on certain spots. some are squirrels, some are porkies.. what makes them chew one spot over another? one particular job... new home.. squirrels are only chewing a spot around the front door frame. im trying to answer the questions for the customers as to "why" this spot. no paint different, never had them chew before, are some of the comments from the people. any ideas as to why they would do this? another house, the guy had squirrels last fall eating the bottom of the wood siding.. he watched through his window. i took 5 black squirrels from this spot. this year... he has quill pigs chewing the same areas. this guy has not stained his house for 3 years... nothing has changed. now in 6 months, seems all the animals want a piece of this house.

It could be a number of thing wiggler any thing from the cemicales to treat the wood. The texture of the wood. The main reason any rodent chew is to wear down there teeth.

there WAS alot of browns.. i guess it really has slowed down a lot since last month. not many boats going out.

Animals crave salt.Somebody or something has been marking their teritory.

Kinging is what we call fishing for king salmon , Wiggler lives 4 blocks from the best salmon and steelhead in the world .

I agree that it may be salt. Any residual salt left over from the winter due to tire splash, salting the porch, etc., will draw the rodents. Last year I had a job where a groundhog was making continuous cycles of chewing on a deck then drinking from a kiddie pool. This had went on for 3-4 days before the homeowner called me. Found that she had salted the deck heavily over the winter. Washing the area thoroughly may solve the problem.

well these houses have no winter people in them and they are not near a driveway... so road salt is out. just one of these questions that i dont have an answer for. i know porkies will chew decks.. siding.. anything that might have salt in it.. but squirrels in the fall?

I have a job where the Groundhogs are chewing like that along the lower porch door sill. I asked her if she was sure it was the whislepigs and she said she had seen them doing it.

Maybe something or somebody urinated there. I had a squirrel at my office chewing on my door frame last year and at the same time a squirrel at home chewing on a door frame. None have done it before or since....

I think it is some chemicals also why do you go to your frigi for a beer some of you why do you go to your stash to smoke maybe it gets them High or drunk! LOL Why they choose to chew one spot over and over and not to gain access is beyond me. I know horses will chew on treated lumber to get high if you've ever been on a horse farm

If the house was sprayed for bees/insects in the past with a boron based spray it will draw squirrels to chew on it afterward. Not sure if in your case it was sprayed before they had the problem or not but I find it a lot around here.

I had horses. They don't chew to get high. They have a beaver complex. Had a black lab like that too.
