ADC, I've tried Marty's Stinger spring on snares in the open and had success with them. That said, I haven't used them a lot but they gave me the option to try snaring in wide open situations.....so far, all coyotes have been deceased and from the sign at the scene, very quickly.

I have to agree. I use Amberg locks with the dispatch spring and I make my snares anywhere from 7 to 9 feet long. I have seen in the snow where a coyote is walking and he gets in the snare and takes off and than snaps back when he hits the end of it and then runs back the direction from which he came and hits the end of the snare again and drops. If your using a 9 foot snare and the coyote hits the end of the snare the first time, when he comes back he has eighteen feet of running room which he builds up a good head of steam and when he hits the end of that, it's all over.

John and others keep in mind ADC has a mandatory deer stop reg. to deal with...in your opininion how does that change things?

plus mchewk, in adc, a dead coyote in a snare is bad image for your company and trappers. even when i fur trap i do everything i can to keep snared animals alive, including moving the deer stop to 4" instead of 2.5" as required.

It doesn't change anything, a coyotes neck is larger than 2 1/2", that is required by some states. I see no problem with using them if they are small like the new mini deer stops. I use them and see no fur damage if the coyote is neck snared correctly. But then that's just my opinion.

Good to here John's insight on it too!

pull crackers are illegal in many states, as well as fire hazards in many more, use your brain a bit and think devious, those alarms on fishing poles will work with a bit of work, bells, pop cans with buck shot in them, long snares with good breakaways and good locks with springs help a bunch on these, i hate tall kill poles cuz i had alot of refusals even with camo paint, i had much better luck usin a shorter cnare, say 5 foot or 6 foot, then a stake a short distance away that did not stick up much, and a small tree branch or a part of a yukka plant to camo it i brought with me, the simplest way is just use the long snare and the kill spring if its legal, but you will still get some that will not work it hard enough to knock them down.

Cant get into this one-----------------I dont have no experance with Kill springs and Non entanglement Coyote snaring OUT WEST. I have snared Coyotes in the east where I used entanglement to kill them. Down South I snared Coyotes for the Live Market. So I wanted them alive and well.
