I was just wondering how long it usually takes a beginner to skin beavers. This year i'am going to sell them skined instead of the round. I have done this in the past because my buyer only live about 2 miles away. But this year i have more time. I skin all other animals and it takes about 5 min to do a coon if that helps you any.

Its like anything else, once you get the hang of it, it won't take you all that long. I reckon with practice the average trapper can rough skin a beaver in 10 to 20 minutes. Starting off, it will be slower, but how slow depends on the individual. It sounds like you have skinning experience on coons, so you should pick it up pretty quickly.

I also skin a coon in about 5 min, or a little less, and it takes me about 25-30 minutes for a beaver. The hard part for me is fleshing a beaver. I can flesh a nice prime cold coon in about 7-8 minutes, but it takes about 30 minutes for me to flesh a beaver. It a whole lot different than fleshing the fat off a coon.

then whats the point of skinning it. just continue to sell them in the round. doubt your buyer is going to give you much more for them skinned and not fleshed than in the round. i might be wrong.

I can skin one in around 10 min. my buyer does pay a good bit more for them skinned plus I get to keep and use the carcasses and castor and oil. I do not try to skin them close to the fur I leave lots of fat ect. on them. I figure if they have to flesh them anyway... plus its a good heavy feel to the hide.

Does thatt sound like I'm doing them right? Since I get an average of 3-5 per season I could use some pointers too. lol

My opinion. It really does matter what leave on the hide for a buyer. Any buyer I know doesn't care of the wieght of hide. Some people likes it skinned heavy. they say easier to flesh. I don't think so. My main buyer won't buy mine green. I think he don't like me. When I take him fur I see people bringing him animals on the carcus. I don't know why he won't take mine green. You all might know him His Name Is Don Wolf. Maybe I try to pawn off about 120 beaver hides on him. I don't know.LOL
