For those of you who have fished, or live near any of the Great Lakes with a trout and salmon fishery, have any of you used eggs from these fish harvested during the spawning season for mink, raccoon, or, possibly even as a canine bait?
If so, I would be curious as to how you put it up - as one would normally prepare any "chunk" bait after slightly tainting, stabilized with sodium benzoate and glycerine/propylene glcol, or have made "fish oil" from it.
I will soon have access to a supply of eggs at a nearby fish cleaning station when the spawning run begins in the tributary to Lake Ontario where I live.
Thought I would seize the opportunity for the potential of this "bait" resource. I have never used them. Would invite any and all comments from members who have had experience with eggs for bait. Thank you.

How about some of you Alaskan trappers. Any thoughts available for input? I am very curious about the potential of using these. If I had been flaky enough to ask if plain Rice Krispies could be used for mink, raccoon, or canine bait I could readily accept the minimal responses. Somebody has to have explored this possibility in depth at one time or another.

I used some eggs and caught several weasels if the eggs are not frozen they get a good smell with a couple of days to taint. Don't know how they would do on coon because this was in alaska but the eggs did very well in temps above 26 degrees. Once they freeze solid they do not have much smell until they thaw again. I was using king salmon and red salmon roe.
