I have put some LDC lure on the top of a fence post or two along a woven wire fence and snared the crawl throughs. I figure they will maybe go back and forth through the fence trying to pinpoint the smell. I've caught stuff doing it but who knows they have been going there anyway. lol

Otherwise (except for beaver) I like to avoid any unnatural smells neer the snares, I like the critter to be going along as if nothing was out of the ordinary until that sudden stop when the snare pulls tight. I try to avoid reseting locations for that reason as well, I move up or down the trail. I don't want them to be sniffing around the old catch circle but rather going along at their own pace. That make any sense? \:\)

I agree. A snare is like a silent sentry waiting 24/7. I have on occassion placed a gob of GH2 on tree branches or fence posts when the area has had no activity and that seems to pull them into the area but I only do it as a last resort.

Lots of guys up here will set up bait stations in very brushy areas and then snare the trails leading into the bait. Sometimes you leave it un snared for a bit to get them coming in, then set two and three snares on each trail. Many times a fox will go right by another that is dead in a snare on the side of the trail and get nailed in the next snare.

i use urine and lure on some sets. but always have distance from the snare. a little urine on the trail then 20' further down the trail put another squrit, snare in the middle. or smear some lure on a tree 5' high. i'm using scented sets and blind sets, both work fine. as for resets, i pulled two yotes from the same snare set, also caught two reds and on grey from the same exact set, just a new snare.

cool ub .... thanx for addin ... i think what they were gettin at .... or at least how i feel bout snarin is ... ya have to have an idea of how the critters head is gonna be positioned when snarin em ... the smells may have em droppin or raisin their heads after the initial wiff ... but there are ways to get em where ya want em
