Picked our first crop of salmon berries from the yard today. Not as good as some years but there look to be a lot of late berries that will be ready in a few weeks. `Will be picking fireweed later for jelly. I have to say that besides raspberry/currant jelly, fireweed jelly is about my favorite. Tastes like honey! We will have a bumper crop of currants and raspberries this year from the looks of things.

Wow! Does that bring back memories! I can taste them ;o)

What part of the plant do you collect to make fireweed jelly? I'd like to try it.

Fireweed jelly us easy and yummy! I've already made and sold a bunch! lol

You collect only the flowers, I'll be lucky if I can get ONE more batch as they are about done for the year.

There's a million recipes out there, this is a very common one:

We snip off the tops and bring them back to the house and pluck the blossoms off. I'll get my wifes recipe for you. She is making a batch Tuesday. It is probably similar to the one Bonnie posted. We try to pick on a warm day or we get a load of bumblebees with the flowers. On cool days they get in the blossoms and go dormant, then when they warm up in the house... it gets exciting! Luckily our bumbles don't sting, but we still prefer them outside..

How much are you paying up in AK for a 500 round brick of 22 LR ? The prices have gone way up down here.

How many TV stations can you get on your TV with just plain old Rabbit Ear Antennas ?

Jeff,

Seems like there have been more moose this year in your part of the country Jeff, have you noticed that?

Is the rest of Alaska getting a LOT of rain this year? I am (literally) flooded here in Chickaloon. The amount of water I have standing is akin to what we get at breakup.
