#10 on our list is wild hydrangea
note the 2 liter soda bottle for a size comparison.
wild hydrangea grows in heavy woods,,,it prefers well drained soil and is commonly found on hillsides. i find alot of mine on roads that cut thru the timber.....espeicially coming up out of river bottoms.
pretty much the same timber you'll find ginseng in.
this stuff can grow to 9 feet high, but i see most of it around 4-5 feet tall.
it's best to bring a spade to dig this with.
the roots are very easy to wash........just swish them around in some clear cool water until all the dirt is removed.
i then cut them up into 6 inch pieces to help aid in drying.......you can dry this in full sun on screens or on sheets of tin...provided that if you use tin......turn the roots to ensure even drying on all sides.
store in paper sacks in a cool dry place.
wild hydrangea root is used for diuretic, cathartic, emetic..........DO NOT USE YOURSELF!.....YOU COULD WIND UP WITH CYANIDE LIKE POISONING.
