The first pic is location along the lake bank. I like this set up it has yielded alot of coon some rats and mink. I like a bank that is a little higher than the water.

The second pic is of the tools i used to make the set i used a piece of field drainage pipe about 20 inches long, a victor 1 1/2 with the square pan. And my trap shovel for digging in the bank.

The 3rd pic is of the hole being dug to proper depth and width of pipe. Remember to save the dirt for filling around the exposed pipe.

The 4th pic is the pipe inserted in the bank hole. Then the dirt is applied to the pipe to cover at least 3/4 of pipe. Leaving at least 4 inches exposed.

Now the 5th pic shows the set with the camo flage added. and the trap placement. i set the trap where just the pan is exposed. The pipe is extended beyond the bank the trap is set about 3 inches in front of pipe this is to force the coon to the deeper water at the end of pipe and away from bank. He will have to raise up to see in pipe which puts his back foot in trap. Trap is attached to a drowner wire and the coon is deep sixed.

The final pic is everything set up and the set at a distance. This is what the coon sees. Now a little bait and lure to the hole and your set to catch those coons at the waters edge.

Thanks for looking DH

Thanks. I have a good supply of short pieces of 4' pipe and I've been looking for a good way to utilize them.

Let me explain this for you city slicker this is another preseason set up. This set up will stand up to all types of weather and still produce. If you just make a hole in the mud and go the first good rain hole colapses and no set. Come rain sleet or hail this pipe will still be there. Thus the reason behind it. this is for the young trappers that will be using it. This way when rain or bank collapses This wont put there set out of commision. Thus making them happier and keeping them catching instead of making a ton of dirt holes in banks. They work dont get me wrong but the longer you can keep a set working the better thus the pipe.

first coon caught set will be destroyed if you get a back foot catch - punch a hole, lure and run - much quicker then packing shovel, pipe, trap, two stakes for drowning rig

Not knocking the idea for someone who can take time and admire sets - just wouldnt want to rebuild this time after time catching coons

in addition - for kids or others - this can also be done with pvc pipe 1-4" to speed it up and hammer a foot long piece of pipe into bank above trap - again though this also draws thieves, I wouldnt use it along roadsides

That's a great set, especially if you can find a small seep or trickle to dig and place your pipe into. The pipe keeps the hole from falling in. Also, the set remains functional even after the early freezes.

Thanks for posting pictures of a good-lookin' set! I have a question, though. Have you ever had people mess with your pipe thinkin' maybe it is an illegal discharge into the lake or something? I would be afraid to use it for fear of attracting unwanted human intervention on public waters.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Ive used it on creeks and lakes never had a problem at all. I put these sets out of easy access for the every day people. Ive never trapped public areas. I leave those for younger trappers. I ask around all the time on private property. A lot of my areas come from adc trapping. If you let it be known you will trap problem animals for the permission to trap during season this gets you more than you can handle. But trap what ya can. But keep in mind you must take there interest first by removing the offending animal.
