Yesterday we had our first vistors from the outside world since last September and a good time was had by all. Photo shows Valet parking in the Gash for a good portion of the winter population of two villages.

Good point. It was so nice yesterday with no wind and the temps in the 20's it seemed strange to not have mosquitoes.

Does the wind blow enough there to keep them away?

To be more correct we get a lot of wind but wish more of it was productive. I have over 15 years of wind data collected and our average is 10.7 mph but a lot of that average is to fast or to variable to be productive for power generation.
Looking at historical weather data yesterday and it was -20 a year ago and +42 yesterday. Just can't get enough of this sun, no wind and no bugs.

This photo is from a run I made downstream to check out the river ice or more correctly said just because it was to nice to set inside.

It's been a few since I was in your neck of the tundra. We would walk into Pilot and see if we couldn't get a game of xtratuff basketball going. Is that hoop still there?

One day it was really blowing, no bugs, and I saw some nice caribou. Well I thought I'd take a closer look at this one huge bull. So I head off trying to cut them off. Halfway there, the wind stopped. I literally thought I was going to being killed and eaten by bugs! Was not prepared for that kind of firepower.

Well, hopefully you get more warm weather. You deserve it.

Been awhile since I've been in your area as well. Hoop was still there but its been awhile since I've been in PIP. Missed the winter carnival this year because the ice wasn't good then. I can tell its been awhile since you have been here when you mention caribou. I guess we deserve the nice stretch as I can remember cold stretches longer than this.

I think I was up there from 92-99. The guy I fished with would run out past Moller during closures. Every once in a while we were allowed to swim in to the beach. That's how I got my oosik and glass ball collection.

Are there no caribou around there anymore? If I remember right, I saw that bull a couple miles outside of PP. I do remember he was a monster.

One day I kayaked up Dago as far as I could go. Saw one HUGE bear up there. Came around a bend and there he was. Having a ten foot bear stand on his hind legs at ten yards while you are locked into a little piece of plastic was a good heart stopper/starter. Always threatened to make a trip back for those two animals and never did.

The caribou have been close to gone for several years and the bears/wolves are dealing with the survivors. I still have a 9 1/4" wide paw print on my living room window. He walked between me and my weapon that was 10 yards away while I was putting up my electric fence this summer and thats a new definition of pucker.
The glass balls have been picked over big time and you really have to work to find them. Like everywhere some things change with time.

What is the last receiving dates for NAFA and FH in Alaska can someone tell me. I am always pushing it with my season ending the end of March. I know ours is usually extended and I can't go by the dates on the Nafa website.

Pittu-

Oh yeah!!!! grin That's gotta be up for quip of the year! Man, once one of the pack members goes down everyone gets nipped!

I was just making my daughter her early morning mug up, trying to be quiet, and then I read this. Nothing like bursting out in hysterics in a silent house while my pregnant wife sleeps. I hope you understand the mauling I just got. frown

Do I get credit for the assist? I was reading an old post of mine and I saw where i inadvertantly set up White17 who really dropped the ball on a zinger. He was probably keeping it clean since it was in my wolf journal.

A guy has to type defensively around here. Jeesh.
